There must be some mistake. I thought that Melinda was sixteen a long time ago! Are you sure? We all wish you the best, Sweet Sixteen Niece, and we can't wait until we see you next month. We hope that this will be the best year yet....§

And happy Birthday greetings from us as well. Let's see what great privileges do we bestow on a 16 year old? Adult movies? Alcohol? Cigarettes? I don't think so. Wait a minute, isn't 16 the age for a learners permit? I'll bet you didn't think of that!Have a great day and congratulations on becoming about 16/18ths of an adult.

Does this make Leo the big...60? Can't be. Oh, I am SOOO looking forward to being with you all...still working the details out, but things are looking very good at this point.

First two days of work were very interesting, and didn't suck. Can I say that here? Anyway, it's all very Dick Tracy, in a good way.

The Mariners won their final game in the Kingdome a few minutes ago...quite a fun game actually. All 5 Kingston Pingrees will be heading to Seattle for the first M's homestand in the new stadium in about 3 weeks. We got the $5 bleacher seats, which I hear have a GREAT view of Mt Rainier. Meantime, hope you all are enjoying summer, as we are!

Well, my start date got pushed back till Thursday (tomorrow). All for the best -- the kids finished up school yesterday.

Miranda makes us all proud, anyway, but outdid herself yesterday, when she was given the Presidential Academic Fitness Award. We were invited to attend the ceremony, and were even able to surprise her! None of the recipients knew they were getting this - it was great. Anyway, she's all done with Jr High School now!

Our Housewarming Party on Saturday was great! I say housewarming, because it's the first Grown-ups, just for the heck of it party we've had since we moved to Kingston! About time, I guess.

What are you all up to?

Happy Birthday David. Hope you enjoyed the beginning of another year, the beginning of summer, and the beginning of another season with an employed spouse. All these things are truly remarkable events. I also hope you make it east next month as it has been way too long. Raise a glass in my name. Love,

Bon voyage to Dad, on his way back to the south.

Hearty birthday greetings to Dave Pingree. Hope you gat what you wanted for father's day.

The exam in Florida went about as expected. Very tiring mentally. Won't know if I passed until September. Remind me never to move to Florida, at least this time of year: too hot and humid. Who needs it.

Looking forward to sailing with Paula and Mark sometime in the next year.

Go Mona!

Sunday, June 20, 1999 at 11:23:50 (PDT)
Highlights of my day:
- No kids stayed home sick from school
- Made myself a BLT for lunch!
- Took Miranda shopping - Godiva chocolates, new jeans, James Taylor CD, a rechargeable Weed Whacker!
- Watched Betsy and Paul perform in the Drill Team
- Went out with David for Italian food, etc. heh heh
- Read all these messages from you all
- Sent Scott some extra good exam-taking vibes

Other news: I accepted another job, contracting at MS. This one should be lots of fun - no more localization testing, I'll be in the technical team, probably testing performance. I start work Monday (Ping's birthday), and I'll send more details in email - I never know how much I'm allowed to share! But I will have a week off to be able to make the Big Event!

This Saturdaywe'll be having a June-baby birthday, Solsitce party. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood!

And a Happy Birthday from the Muggy Notheast. Remember my birthday advice: eat, say, think, do and be only what you want today. And throw away as many aticles of clothing as you are years old. Out with the old (did I say old?) and in with the new. Have a great day. Looking forward to seeing you in 6 weeks. Love from...

Thanks for the wishes. I'm flying out tomorrow afternoon and the test is Mon, Tue and Wed. I'm not too worried about passing, but people say it is a grueling 3 days.

Pam and Chris were married last week (6/4/99), as we learned after the fact. They are planning on coming to the festivities in July, so you can offer congratulations then.

Thursday, June 10, 1999 at 19:12:26 (PDT)
We're back! We had a great 6 days in Kentucky and Ohio and saw friends and places that we hadn't seen for much too long. Thanks to everyone for the congratulatory messages; we are now into our second half-century of marriage. (Second verse, same as the first.) Athena was here when we got home. She and her dad will start to Massachusetts as soon as he gets rested up and cuts the grass.
Athena is in the process of trying to get her stuff and her psyche from one state to another. (Is that vague enough?)Actually, her psyche seems to be already in New England; it's the STUFF that's hard to organize and transport.
We're looking forward to seeing Paula and the girls in a couple of weeks, and everybody else a month later. Love you all, y'all.

I was thinking of you three (Hi Athena!) all day yesterday, wondering what the Berea festivities were like. Did you look up any old friends I might know like the Connelly's?

I was also remembering your 25th wedding annivesary in Hamburg, and the cake with the silver leaves....Sending you my love and looking forward to some in person hugs!

Bravo to Mom and Dad wherever you are! What is your secret to a long successful marriage? Patience, love and understanding? Selective hearing loss at appropriate times? Just plain good luck? Whatever it is we are glad you found it and hope you continue to enjoy it.

We have been pretty busy. Jeff just started summer classes. Linda and the other kids just got back from a few days with Jojo in Brewster. I'm studying for my boards which are in one week. I just got a real good deal on a low resolution digital camera so hopefully some of the photos will be on this site soon.

Happy anniversary from me as well, Ma and Pa. The image of two such Golden people at such a Golden time. Blinding to say the least. And where would we be without you? I shudder to think. Thanks, Steve, for re-enacting our big day. I always felt like I missed it the first time around. Where was I anyway? This year we were at Peter and Sue Hanson's, who were celebrating the 100 days of Christine Lee. Good people, good food, and a good opportunity to invite extended family members to the July 31st celebration. We gave ourselves a yearlong membership to the Boston Sailing Club as an anniversary present, so anyone brave enough can come sailing in Boston Harbor when you are all here! Melinda took the risk with us today and lived to tell the tale. We expect to make it to the cabin around June 26, in time to celebrate Melinda's 16th birthday there. Who will be there to celebrate with us? And anyone brave enough can go driving with her this summer !?! So again Mom and Dad, thanks for having us all. 50 years, Whew. I love you!

Happy Anniversary from here, too. Gold, now why did not I think of that ... I am trying to enjoy the last week in my apartment - time to get out before the rates go up. Still not sure where I am heading, but I will still get my mail here, and email at the usual addresses. Just when the pool is getting nice and warm ...

Okay....Let me be the first (and the second) to post Happy Anniversary Greetings to Mom and Pop Stylos. Hard to believe that it has been half a century! Seems like only 47 years to me. We all you hope are well and enjoying your golden weekend. If I knew how, I would change all the colors on this website to shades of gold. Let us know when you get back to NC....§

We are having an instant replay here in Kingston of a party we went to 23 years ago today. We have hidden all the hard liquor behind some trees in the backyard, and are pretending we are drinking only beer and wine. Shhhhhhh!!!!! We congratulate both Mark and Paula for putting up with each other and their respective families for all these years. Twenty-seven years to go for the current record. And further congratulations (tomorrow) to Paul and Ramona, who are in Berea celebrating their fiftieth college reunion, which happens to fall on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Since we will all be in Boston celebrating that one in eight weeks, the real party and all the presents (presence) will have to wait. We hope all is well with Styloses (Styli?) near and far. Let's have some news here. §

Friday, June 04, 1999 at 12:17:34 (PDT)
Greetings from birthday-land. Being that I am getting older and wiser, I am trying new things this birthday. Mark and I are in the middle of weeklong sailing lessons in Boston Harbor, the North End to be exact. The weather and the food have been spectacular. We are learning to Jibe and Tack, and can now tell you just what leeway really is. (We also just shared a bottle of champagne prior to dinner, so please excuse any typographical errors.) Not only that, we have signed up for motorcycle lessons in July, though I am looking into other two wheel transports. Lobster? In the interest of prolonging my birthday, and as both of my children work to 10 and 11:00 tonight, the real feast will happen Friday. Tonight Mark and I are going to the Jazz cafe, which has an open mike for acoustic music tonight. No, alas, I will not be playing. That is the birthday news. Thank you all for your long distance birthday spankings. I cannot wait to see you all next month. Love from Paula June.

Hey y'all
Thanks for the loyal support, even though I know you old fogeys are just trying to live vicariously through me in the prime of my youthful vitality. I was thinking about turning 19 and I couldn't think of any landmark. My Mama told me different. Now that I am 19, if I ever have to enter a state mental facility, I am now considered an adult and therefore I will be entered into an ADULT state program. Thank god I reached this important milestone in my life. Love to all of you and oh yeah, Papa gave me a fork that extends almost 3 feet so all of your plates at the anniversary party are fair game.

It was Ana's front tooth. She lost her teensy little bottom ones eons ago. And Mark, don't let money be an object, if I need to I can help by paying my website development royalties. That's it from here, over and out... §

Gee, I guess news is getting tough to come by. To one up you, Vanessa lost her first tooth 2 weeks ago (bottom right front), and the second is probably out by now, too. The RedSox are 1 1/2 up on NY, and the "Go Mo" Angels are in last place. I've been busy working. You can check out some pre-releases at here or here. We have been hitting the pool here - got a bad burn on the top of my feet last weekend, but I should be ready by tomorrow. So, Paula got a new toy for Melinda's driving lessons? She must love you (Hi Melinda!!).

Still no decisions on dates here, but it looks like money may be a factor... I will let you know when I know.

Since it has been so long since you all had any Seattle news, I thought I would bring you up to date. There, you are all now up to date. I suppose no news is good news. Actually, the big news here is that Ana has lost one of her front teeth. When she comes to see me this weekend, I'll try to take some pictures for posterity. We are all excited about the approaching summer, but we haven't made official plans yet. At this point it looks like two weeks on the east coast (probably July 23 through August 6th). Depending where everyone is, we will be splitting our time between North Carolina and Boston. It is supposed to be a beautiful weekend here, and Ana and I are planning to spend our time roller blading, and taking walks. Like I said, no news is good news. We are all very excited about seeing everyone this summer. Keep us posted. §

Well, Thena, I knew you would go to great lengths to avoid this packing thing, but really. Advice? I wish I had some. Seven months later I am still trying to figure it out. But the being waited on sure sounds like a good idea. And by the way, my new "arrest me red" Honda CRV will arrive this Saturday. We will be driving to the Cabin arounf June 26 in style! Hurray up and heal that ankle, Beans.

well it wasn't totally true about me packing my apartment up . . . i found that there wasn't much i could do with one foot, and the rest of my body is getting tired from hopping around! so i am back at mom and dad's being waited on and fed spaghetti and strawberry shortcake . . . don't you wish you were here? for my ankle i am doing ice, elevation, comfrey and boneset compress, arnica and st john's wort salve and of course staying off it ( that's where mom and dad come in ) any additional advice is welcome . . . mom said she saw two baby white squirrels today and the honeysuckle is out hooray!
hope all is well with everyone love from athena

I think it's time for a new message so here it is. I will spread the word that Athena is holed up in her upstairs apartment working to organize and pack up her belongings. All this while hobbling around on one foot and a crutch, after turning her ankle badly during her "keep fit" efforts. She has access to email but not the internet from her apartment, so if you want to send her something, say encouragement, sympathy, distraction (or even advice) send it via email. We, the older generation (who don't endanger life and limb by trying to keep in shape) are fine. (We welcome email, too.)

Please note: the picture of Mom and Betsy was taken in the Wheelhouse of our Brand New ferry, the Puyuallup. They had an open house, and we got to tour the whole ship, including the engine room and the crew's quarters, which were fairly luxurious, in an Airplane-esque sort of a way.

Since I know the suspense must be killing you all, let me be the one to announce that the "Three Cheers for David" is about him getting a promotion to Salesman for the company he has worked for for many years. Other than the short hair, he seems like the same good ole Dave to me. It's a big deal, and we are all proud of him. He says that the biggest difference to him is taking the shower before work instead of after. Everything else is fine. Spring seems to have sprung with a vengeance. Work has been busy but productive, and all here seem to be in good health and spirits. §

Oh, that'll be the day! I've got to start having bake sales, so we can make this trip back east! Then there's putting our yard back together, now that we've had a new septic system installed. Then there's putting the resume together and pounding the pavement.

Did I tell you Friday's my last day at Microsoft? It feels like the end of the school year, gathering my stuff up, saying good-byes, trying not to get too emotional...you know me. Can't wait to be on the other side of this.

Mr. Jeffrey, yes Mr. Jeffrey. Now 18, so you get that new sign of respect. Congrats on your day and your new official status. And I'll tell you the secret now that you are one of us (the adults rather than the kids). The adults aren't all that different--just can do what they want more. But you already knew that. So have a great day, year, and all the rest .

Felicitations and Best Wishes to Jeff on his entry in adulthood. Jeff, I have the idea that you are making that transition, from childhood to the next stage, rather seamlessly, the way you did from high school to college. But that's your style: no big drama, just do it. Now that you have your own dedicated phone-line and lots of wonderful electronic equipment, how about showing up here on the message board from time to time? And for today: eat cake, and make 'em be good to you. Enjoy, it's your day.

Summer is more like it over here, so today was a beach day. The kids were in the water up to their knees (except Jerome who took a fall, and got all wet), followed by some roller blading, bicycling and ball in the park. The taste of good times to come... now if the pool would only heat up a bit.

Work is going fine, and I am passed the probation period. The new Volvo seems as at home as the old one now, and it is nice to have wheels, especially ones that I like. That is it from here for now.

SPRING is also in evidence in Brevard. We count more than 40 azalea bushes blooming in our yard. Paul has put in lots of hard work encouraging the grass and discouraging the weeds. We drove to the cabin and turned on the water on Thursday. Things are very dry there and there is some fear that the spring may not be adequate for long if we don't get more rain. We're thinking of getting a "holding tank" to stabilize the flow of water. Sure wouldn't want to be without that good spring water that flows out of the mountain.

I bought a small kerosene heater to augment the heat from the fireplace on cool evenings. So we are ready for any visitors or vacationers. You're invited.

A BEAUTIFUL spring day on the left coast as well. We just finished another delicious PIngree barbecue. Ana and I are about to leave for the ferry. The only problem is that it was so nice today, that Ana and I are in shorts and t-shirts, and now it is about 50 degrees. Nice weather for a boat ride. I think we will just grab a few blankets from the trunk of the car and sit up on the 'sun' deck. Actually, I bought some roller blades today, and Ana has hers, and there is a smooth surface on the 'sun' deck, maybe I will just race/chase Ana around it. That should keep us warm. We hope all is well with the Stylos's around the world, and that everyone is just too busy having fun to post much lately. We are counting the weeks until the 31st of July. §

This is coming to you from Kate Layne's house in Corvallis, Oregon. Spent last evening with Mike Layne and the night at Chris Layne's, both in Portland. Tomorrow we (Pat, Ken and I) will drive back up to the Seattle area and I still plan to fly out on Thursday if I can get a flight out. I'll be in touch with those who need to know soon by phone.

I guess we'll have to wait to find out what that latest communication from Greece says.

I hope the same spring weather in Massachusetts that I'm enjoying here. RLS

Happy egg hunting to all of you back there. We celebrated ours in a warm park in nearby Sophia Antipolis with our friends from Montenegro. I guess the peace has to start somewhere...

I second that belated birthday greeting to Pam. And my wish for you is: May you never again be 9 months pregnant on your birthday! That way you'll have more room for the cake.

Glad to hear that Paul has arrived at his destination, though Cameron is still waiting for the right time. I am at Mona's . Spent Thursday evening and night with Steve and Ana. Pat and Ken will be having Easter dinner here, as will Steve. Have a good Easter everybody.

Pam, Mona and I send belated birthday greetings. On future birthdays you will probably be more mobile! Good luck..

Announcing the arrival of DAD. He got here late last night, another successful northern journey. Pam, we anxiously await your new arrival, though I am sure we are not nearly as anxious as you are. Good Luck!

Well, it looks like Pam won't have her baby on her own birthday. She said before that she didn't want to share birthdays with Cameron, but now she would just as soon get it over with, shared birthday or not. Anyways, no action on the delivery front. Hello to Mom and everyone on the west coast. Be seeing you soon.

Hello everybody: I'm writing this from Steve's office in Federal Way, Washington. In spite of all you've heard about Washington's rainy weather it's wonderfully sunny today. Pat and Ken and I did the touristy thing in Seattle, going up the space needle and riding the mono-rail. After visiting with Steve and Ana tonight I will go to Kingston to visit Mona and family. The Laynes and Steve will join us (the Pingrees and myself) for Easter dinner. On Monday Pat and I will drive down to Corvallis, Oregon to see Kate Layne and family. I expect to be in the Boston area in about a week. It's good being on the road (and in the air)again after a winter of (mostly) staying put. I have managed to pull off one April Fool's joke today, so I won't try another one here. I wish you all a happy April, and that's no joke.

That's wonderful, Dad. Thanks for the translation. I hope someone is doing the same on the other end! In which case, I'll ask: How's the weather in Thessaloniki? Is it spring-like yet?

This is a translation of giota's message. "Greetings from Thessaloniki. I have read your messages and I learned the news. You have from all of us our friendship and love. Giota, John, Andromakki, Apostolis, and Elizabeth." I am glad they are keeping in touch via the net. I hope they read that we have located a Poulos Stylos and that Mark has found an Angelos Stylos both of which trace ancestors back to the 1700's. We will find out if there is any relationship.
