I had a picnic with Jerry today at the cemetery in Newton. Very peaceful. At the boat with brother Mark trying to beat the storms....we took the sails down in the dark and windy night...very adventurous. Celebrating now (at midnight) with dark and stormies...and it is!

We had fun last night getting dinner on the table and lamb chops on the grill, all by candle light because Northampton was dark. It seems a squirrel had sabotaged a major transformer. Steve, Scott, Paula, Athena and Emily joined us in the Christmassy atmosphere for a couple of hours until National Grid restored the power. Fortunately, Steve had just finished baking some delicious brownies when the "lights out" started.

Let me say what an amazing time I had sailing in Narragansett Bay with my brothers and sisters, with a great overnight docking in Bristol Harbor. (And yes, the kids of Bristol are sharp as a pistol, when they do the Bristol Stomp!) The only way the adventure could have been any better was if we had had Steve along with us...next time?

Athena and I have been having a fun, travel intensive visit over the past 12 days, from Vancouver to the north to Vancouver to the south, from sea to shining sea...we checked in on Kate and Chris Layne in Silverton, OR. Kate has a new hobby/vocation of selling treasures at a stall in an antiques mall.
On Thursday we'll pack up and fly to Massachusetts, whence more visiting will commence.

So Miranda and Paul and Rachel will have one more day in Williamstown, and they welcome visitors there. Then they'll be taking a train to get to Boston where, again, they would love to meet up. Miranda's phone number (she gave it here) is the best way to get a hold of her if you want. Betsy and Josh will be leaving Georgia tomorrow and arriving at their new apartment in Newton on Friday afternoon. I'm holding steady. Steady as she goes. well scott and i got back safely and soundly from the cabin -- had a great time - i highly recommend a visit there, bev and barry have done great things. celebrated rex's ninetieth as scott may have mentioned in kentucky before hand ... paula and the girls also back safely, everyone is back to their workaday world, though refreshed by mountain air (if not dew) -- looking forward to trying to catch a glimpse of the pingree kids as they gather for pingree cousins reunion! here's an early "welcome to massachusetts for betsy and josh, looking forward to seeing your place!

Thank you so much, my loving family. I did indeed have a wonderful birthday. It started around midnight with champagne in the hot tub, then on to blessed sleep, a delicious breakfast with Athena and Jessamyn, my ritual purge of 61 pieces of clothing (thanks Athena!), enjoying my screened deck, admiring my newly planted vegetable garden (thank you Melinda and Jess), and of course sharing a lobster feast with all three of these lovely woman and one lovely man (Seth). Oh, and I enjoyed all the cyber birthday wishes (and sailing images) from my siblings and parents. A very happy day.

Greetings from sunny Florida, but I won't annoy you by comparing the weather with that of MA. I am enjoying being with Jill and Don and being able to go for a walk! . Okay, I will chime in. My nieces and nephews are all amazing; Dental school, grad school, nursing school, world traveling, turning 21, doing well in college, making music, photographing, technologizing, dating great people...I could not be prouder. Melinda is working hard (doing well) and Jess is working hard (and also doing well) in grad school. Mark A. is in India where it is not cold and snowy, and I will be visiting him in 5 days.... But brother Mark is visiting and I will miss him again? No fair. When I come back to the U.S. of A. Spring had best have sprung.

It was good to have Joe here for part of the winter...he is now back to work in North Carolina. We finally got to see some of his pics from Nepal, India and Thailand. Pretty amazing. Hopefully he will get the pics uploaded to jdstylos.com for everybody to see. Meanwhile, we are still enjoying the company of Jeff, Faren, and Melissa. Melissa is finishing up the first stage of Nursing training this semester and will probably go on to get an advanced degree. Pam is also finishing up school this semester and will be looking for a job. And we get to see Mark S. next week!

Congratulations to Betsy on her first acceptance. I think she should also be congratulated for finishing the task of sending in (and paying for) SIX applications! I feel sure the right path will open up for her.

Wow, really? No one has anything to say? This has been such an important place for me, to get to keep up with what's going on. I'll just keep putting my stuff out there, if you don't mind.
Miranda did her interview for Dental school last week, and will have to wait another week or two to learn the results. Betsy is starting to hear back from graduate schools (she applied to 6) - So far one yes (American University) and one no (U of Illinois). Paul took a trip today - to South Carolina to spend some time with Betsy as she finishes up her job at the farm. She was without power for 5 days after last week's crazy southern weather, followed by (of all things) an earthquake. And I'm still looking for a job. Meh. Love to all.
