Halima has asked me to post this information about Mary's burial and memorial service: burial will be on Thursday, December 26 in Wareham in a small graveside service. Then on Sunday, December 29 at 1:00 o'clock there will be a memorial service at the Chapman-Cole-Gleason funeral home at 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28) in Wareham. The telephone number of the funeral home is 508-295-0060.

To any family members reading this page: Aunt Mary (Stylos Mohidin) died last night . She was almost 96 years of age. Plans for a funeral haven't been finalized but probably will be soon.

Congratulations, big Jerome!!

Miranda is done for the quarter, and is heading to South Carolina with David on Monday, to bring some Christmas cheer to our darling Betsy. She's got her application in to UW dental school, and will be interviewing in February - huge strides she's made, and I couldn't be prouder! She will be moving to Richmond Beach in January - to the self same house she lived in with me and David in 85-88, so that's kind of a trip!

I'm sending my love along with those of you who will be attending Eleanor's memorial tomorrow. I am so sad that her time on earth has ended, it's hard to put in to words what I'm feeling about all of that.

I'm still looking for work, and that's just what it is. Happy Friday the 13th, all - love you,

I am back home as of midnight last night. Still haven't unpacked or caught up on so many things. Chris seemed somewhat better when I last saw him. His spirits are good and he jokes about his missing leg. His condition remains serious and probably will for a long time. A week from now is Thanksgiving! You will be able to find me at Paula's eating turkey, or whatever.

Chris continues to get stronger every day and is eating better. Mona came yesterday and left today. Bev will stay tonight with us here in Vancouver tonight. I'm checking in from Vancouver, WA, where Pat and Ken live. This is primarily to report on Chris Layne who is in the OHSU teaching hospital in Portland, OR. We have been spending part of every day with him and as of last night he seemed to be getting better day by day. Yesterday he was moved from the ICU (again) to a regular room. He looks better than I had expected and is usually in good spirits. He is able to talk about and joke about his missing leg. (Says he is going to get a parrot and make like Long John Silver.) The current medical dilemma is how to balance the coagulant intended to stop the internal bleeding, and on the other hand, the anti-coagulant that should prevent any more blood clots. He likes to have family nearby so some of us are there all day and into the evening.
Now that I have figured out how to use Pat's computer I will probably be making more frequent reports. Love to all.

I'm the lucky one who got to have the company of these 2 fine young ladies this afternoon. Free day at the Seattle Art Museum, followed by dinner at The Athenian, at the Pike Place Market. Great company - we welcomed in the blustery season, which seems to come on 11/7 every year.

Word from Pat concerning Chris is that his condition goes up and down, not too good at the present moment. He is anxious to go home but will not be able to for a while yet. Pat spends her days in the hospital with him.

Bev reports that Chris had a good day. He was taken off the ventilator and can talk, though he slept most of the day. He now knows about his missing limb and can talk about it. He has bounced back surprising well from his most recent operation. There will be another one tomorrow. I'll keep passing on information as I get it.

Chris's condition is once again deteriorating. After 5 operations there is still hope for a recovery but that hope now seems to be dwindling. His family is there with him, trying to offer comfort and encouragement to him and each other. I hope my next report can be more positive. Both Rex and Pat keep me informed by phone.

I just talked to Rex. He reports that the doctors are pleased with Chris's condition (vital lines, etc.) but he is still too sedated to know about his missing leg. He will continue to get constant attention in the ICU. I will continue to relay reports as I get them.

Chris remains in critical condition. After more surgery today his midsection is stabilized BUT a blood clot in his leg cut off circulation in that area and required amputation of one leg at the knee. He is still too sedated to know what's been going on and the family is dreading having to tell him. A sad situation.

Alarming news about Chris Layne: Things have gone wrong at the site of his surgery and in spite of a 10 hour surgery it's not getting any better. Pat, Kathi, Beverly and Mike are keeping vigil. Rex and Gracie are due in tonight. Chris made a remarkable resurgence several months ago, so there is hope that he can do it again. I will pass along any further news that I get. Pat calls often.

I guess I'm the Someone Else. There's nothing dramatic happening here. Jeff has finished the CDT but we don't know when to expect the bearded one at our door. Joe is off to Nepal. Cameron will be in Vermont camping all next week. We think the Lueckes will be here for lunch on Tuesday. Athena expects to meet your plane on Monday. I hope you, M and M get a chance for at least a short visit before you take off to Seattle.

I am back from 3 days in Fairhaven. I love the Greyhound/Peter Pan. It was so good to have time with Bill and Ginny. Now I have read the mail, listened to telephone messages and checked email. Tomorrow I'll unpack my bag and get back to routine.

Доставка из Китая от TRANSITplus из города Гуанчжоу - полный развод! В прошлом году везли через них партию зарядок к телефонам и аксессуары (всего около 500 кг.) мало того, что везли всё больше озвученных сроков в 4 раза (ссылались на проблемы на таможне, мол приехала инспекция из Москвы), так ещё и потеряли треть нашего груза! Мы пытались решить миром, но нам категорически отказались возвращать хоть какие-то деньги.
Сказали примерно так: готовы компенсировать часть суммы за три будущие поставки, иначе ни как. Генеральный директор TRANSITplus Дмитрий Портнягин пообещал разобраться в ситуации, но в итоге кормил завтраками больше 2-х месяцев, а потом вообще перестал отвечать на звонки и письма. То он в командировке, то он в Гонконге, то в отпуске, короче жулик!
Сказали, что если хотите что-то решать прилетайте в Китай, будем обсуждать. Посмотрев их сайт и почитав себяхвалебные отзывы в интернете (теперь я полностью уверен, что они сами их писали, а не какие не клиенты) решился работать с ними, но в итоге попал на деньги, потеряв не только треть груза, но и кучу нервов.

Всем кто планирует работать с компанией Транзит плюс из Гуанчжоу я настоятельно рекомендую трижды задуматься: готовы ли вы чтобы Ваш товар "летел" к вам 3 месяца, чтобы его разворовали по пути, а потом ещё и обвинили вас в том, что ты сам "баран" - обращайтесь к ним.
С балабольством и очковтирательством у этой компании и у её генерального директора Дмитрия Портнягина и его шайки, работа поставлена отлично.

Только вот после всей этой нервотрёпки и унижения не оставить свой настоящий, пережитый на собственной шкуре отзыв не могу!

TRANSITplus - полный развод, шайка разводил, которым сам чёрт не страшен, потому, что работают они не в России, а в Китае, в Гуанджоу и думают что их никто не достанет.

Рекомендую обращаться в любую другую компанию, но только не в транзит плюс. Транзит + самый настоящий минус на вашем пути!

Мошенники, ничего кроме слов не умеют делать, при столкновении с проблемами не решают их, а прячутся от клиентов.

Специально дают заниженные ставки, а потом выставляют клиентам КТС – корректировку таможенной ставки, короче отжимают нашего брата, клиента, по полной программе.
Не работайте с Транзит плюс! Остерегайтесь!

Well, I know I said good things about you, Mona! I am so impressed with all you've done over the years and especially this past year, all the singing and thinking and growing, go Mona!!!! As for Dad, he keeps surprising us how he can keep getting better and better and showing us his unfailing ability to love. Me, I am in beautiful Mendocino where the sun is just coming up over Emily's sister's gorgeous garden. Last night we saw the sunset over the ocean from the cliffs (no green flash though) after putting in it's longest day. It's been a great trip to california, and I've traveled by land all the way from San Diego to Mendocino, about three quarters of this big state. Finally got myself a map, too. Visited a succulent nursery yesterday that was really amazing, here's hoping my new aeonium and semper vivum make it back to Massachusetts okay. Had a great and sometimes challenging intensive in San Diego, I could see fireworks every night from my bed (yes I went to bed early). (They were real, too, not just illusions. From Sea World.) Today we head back to berkeley, fly home tomorrow. Thanks for the help with Solomon care, he keeps getting his caregivers to send pictures so I know he is doing great (never gets as many crunchies as he would like though). See many of you soon: next wednesday family dinner!

I'm back!! My computer broke several weeks ago, and I found I was unable to post from my work computer, for some reason. Anyway, just a bit proud of myself for opening up the laptop, finding the fan part number, ordering the part from China, receiving it, installing it and -- voila!!

So weird to see pictures of so many streets I've been on so many times in the news this week. Mike Pingree lives on Gloucester St, 2 blocks from where the bombs went off. And he works in the old armory building in Watertown - it's been crazy for him, with lots of having to go through barricades, but he's doing fine.

Anyway, good to be back with you, and I forgot what I was going to say earlier.

Hi everybody! I am happy to report that my birthday is everything i hoped it would be, quiet and peaceful and beautiful out. i got to hug dad and jeffrey and farron and liss -- everyone else is on my list for wednesday hugs, when i hope we will be grilling (dad? please??!?) except of you west coasters whom will be hugged profusely upon our next meeting. nothing like not having a party and having everyone track you down anyway with wishes and presents and cards -- anyone know where the beautiful fruit basket on my kitchen table might have appeared from? any way thanks for the warm welcome, family! no motley cew i'd rather attach myself to! i hope to see you all at paula's birthday week and before or after. thanks again for all the wishes -- my goal is to get back to everyone in person this week! love the

So sorry, we were having so much fun we forgot to travelogue. Athena, Mom and I flew into Arizona (by way of Texas) on Tuesday, February 12. We arrived in time for a little sunny daylight, dinner, conversation and blissful sleep. Wednesday we went out to Peoria, found a brand new Goodwill where we found some amazing Hawaiian shirts. We relaxed, read out in the sun, played Joker, and Athena and I planned the next chapter in our adventure. Thursday Athena and I rented a car and headed North to Arcosanti and Sedona. Sedona was amazing. We had a wonderful Mexican dinner, stayed at the perfect spot (Sky Ranch Lodge) where we made good use of the hot tub (twice) and fireplace. We woke to an incredible view (we would be happy to share our photos) and spent Friday walking through shops and galleries at Tlaquepaque, eating another lovely meal, climbing up Bell Rock, experiencing the center of the Vortex, soaking up the sun, and then driving back to Peoria. Saturday we spent a sunny day relaxing, hot tubbing again, cooking filet mignon (thanks for the telephonic help, Dad) and a game of Shanghai Rummy. Off to bed, and (waving goodbye to Mom!)a 4:00 am shuttle brought Athena and I to the airport ...back to Texas...on to Boston where we landed in some snowy, windy turbulence. Safe and sound. Mark kindly met us at the airport, where the bitter cold was a bitter shock. We relaxed in the hot tub, dreaming of our next escape. Mom, always the intelligent one, remains in Arizona, for a few more days of fun in the sun. We can't wait to have her fill us in on all that she did.

Raise a glass to Mary Stylos Mohidin, who turned 95 on Thursday! Yesterday several of us "elders" (and some not-so-elders) met at Halima's to celebrate the occasion. Paul and Scott and I got to visit with Mary, Halima, Tazi, Shabeer and Sammy, Peter and Lee, Bill and Ginny and "token kid" Jenna, Alex's youngest. Halima fed us both red and white chili as well as birthday cake and ice cream. (Halima's new big dog, Hoss, got some tasty scraps.)
We made note that there were 5 of us Berea alumni there. (Paul, Ramona, Mary, Peter and Halima.)We shared old photos from the past and took plenty of new ones for posterity.
We three from Northampton spent the night in Fairhaven with Bill and Ginny and were fed a sumptious breakfast this morning, and got to spend time with Kathy Agrella and Alex and Monique.
What a pleasant way to spend the weekend!

Now that the holidays are over and the many guests have returned to their homes it is time to reflect on what has happened. First of all it was a wonderful season. (even if some of us were rather ill most of the time) Even though ther was plenty of joy and company there were some missing things, we still missed Mona and her family very much and you would have added a lot to the celebrations. I also missed some of the old Stylos (Stelos) family members.I hope you are all well and are ready for the new year.
