Another quiet relaxing weekend here in Worthington. Spring is gradually making its presence felt. Hung out at home with the kids, did my taxes, downloaded a lot of songs from Napster (hope nobody was trying to call me).

I vote for Smith!

congratulations number two, but this is better than getting into that Eugene Lang place. Now you won't have to major in Universal, Community, Living, Soul, or whatever the heck they call it.

Good for you, Melinda! I think the only one who is surprised is you. We all knew you could do it. I hope you are saving your money. For all those bets you will soon have to pay up on.

Things are quiet here. They say it's officially spring, but we are all waiting for winter to get here. It's been a dry and mild one so far. Hopefully, Seattle will get its entire winter quota of rain while Ana, Dad and I are in France. §

We have 6 or 7 inches of heavy snow. Possibility of 3-6 more inches tonight (or maybe just rain.)It's lovely but treacherous. I feel bad for the school kids who will more days to make up. We should have brought more wood from the cabin. Fortunately the lumber company gave me a trunk load of pieces. Paul's sore throat is MUCH better. All is well.

Snow? How much snow? Maybe someone in New England has bare ground, but not me.....
Paula
Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at 12:13:43 (PST)
How embarrassing to have to report that here in the south we are celebrating the arrival of spring with DEEP snow. I'm just glad this didn't happen while Paula and Athena were here! Of course by this time next year I will have forgotten, and will probably deny, the possiblilty of such a thing happening. I had a full day planned but don't really mind sitting in front of the fire instead. Of course Paul is out to see the sights. Probably one of the few cars out.

Congratulations to you in New England; I understand you can finally see the ground again! Congraulations, too, to Melinda, who now can be assured of having somewhere to lay her backpack, come September. (I think there will be other acceptances, too; maybe we should make bets on which one she will choose, from among those who have chosen her.)

Wow, that was cool Scott. How come you're watching the instructional video after the trip?! heh heh. Are you going to be up for some hiking while you're in Washington State this spring? Did Joey whine? (Just kidding...) Who were the other grown-ups?
mona
Monday, March 19, 2001 at 07:50:42 (PST)
That sounds like an incredible trip. I sure hope the pictures come out, though you have indeed created the image quite nicely in my head. Maybe that is what we should do for the next Stylos reunion. What do you say?

Monday, March 19, 2001 at 03:46:57 (PST)
Welcome back to Paula and Thena! It must have been nice to get a touch of spring down there.

Camping was great; 5 guys in their forties and 2 teenage boys; carried our stuff in backpacks plus some homemade sleds; skied about 3 miles into the woods (Zealand Falls, not too far from Mt. Washington), set up a tent, and (this is the best part) made two igloos; not made of ice blocks like the eskimos do, but using a plastic mold about the size of a suitcase to build blocks of snow in place to make a dome with walls about 6 inches thick; the hardest part was making the last few blocks because they are almost parallel to the ground and it's hard to make them stay in place; Joey and I shared one of the igloos - very luxurious; took some day trips to Zealand Notch and up Mt. Hale; had a lot of cocoa, rehydrated food and candy bars; sat around the campfire at night (burned a few socks trying to dry them out); skied out on the third day and stopped in Hanover NH for pizza and beer.

This coming week we are going to get together again to watch the instructional video on how to make the igloos, and have more pizza and beer, and see if the pictures taken with one of those disposable cameras came out.

I am home, and hopefully Athena will be at her home shortly. We had a wonderful time with Mom and Dad in N.C.. The weather and company were both superb. Our trip home was smooth; we stopped where and when we wanted to, and kept each other amused. Now back to reality and dirty snow.

For any of you who are following the travels of the Stylos girls: Paula and Athena are holed up for the night somewhere in Virginia, almost halfway home. The little red Mazda truck is VERY tightly packed with the things Athena left behind when she left the Carolinas. We had a most enjoyable week, though Athena didn't get to her favorite Mexican restaurant in Asheville and Paula didn't get to the Folk Art Center but we did many other things. Those girls are fun to have around.

Well Betsy, you lucky duck. Some of my favorite people (my two little lucky ducks) have had braces, and they also liked those exciting colors. I hope yours will not slow down your Easter candy eating, but watch out for caramels and popcorn. I remember many a night where I was doing emergency repairs with pliers and wirecutters. Keep smiling!

greg, beth dick and i left for florida on the day of the monday storm. we were lucky we got out on the last plane flying that day at nine in the morning. we felt really blessed to get out. it was fun and we are back and due to seeing the green and flowers and the warmth of florida i can get through the rest of the winter. it was great. i have found anywhere you fly these days you get delays delays and it is not fun. but what can you do. it is better than walking .

Happy Birthday to my Vanessessa! I send you birthday wishes from North Carolina. We are on our way to the cabin where we will have a picnic lunch and think of you in France turning 8 years old. Now, THAT sounds like a real adventure. I hope those pictures come out, otherwise you will just have to describe it, over and over. We are having a great and sunny vacation here. I wish I could send some sunshine to all of you in the colder climates. Spring will come to us all in its own sweet time.

Joe and I survived our winter camping trip in the White Mountains over the weekend. We built and slept in an igloo! It was snowy but we were cozy in our igloo, and climbed Mt. Hale on Sunday. I'll send a photos if they come out. Now I'm really ready for spring. NC sounds nice. Wish I were there.

We are, indeed, enjoying the spring-like weather and the company of Paula and Athena. We have walked in the forest, rearranged my bedoom (one of Paula's favorite activities) walked in the antique mall (another one of Paula's favorite activities)and played RummiKub and Dominoes. Athena is spending quite a bit of time getting her "stuff" repacked. Some of it will go onto the truck they drove down here and the rest will find its way back to Massachusetts bit by bit.

Tomorrow we plan to go to the cabin for the day and have Greek food on the way home.

Though it rained Monday, today is sunny, warm though windy. The girls just go around smiling a lot: clearly happy to get a respite from the ice and snow. It's good to have them here.
Ramona

A quiet weekend here in Seattle. My most exciting activity has been long bicycle rides yesterday and today. Tomorrow Ana comes over and we may go down to see the long, lost Ken and Patsy. Well, the suspense is killing me, did the Boston weather break long enough for Athena and Paula to make their getaway? §

I tried to post earlier, but the message must have been eaten! The gist was ===> good luck, happy trails, safe travel to the girls.

So, my antique computer has been choking lately, but...I've now got a new (to me) one up and running. Steve - you'd be proud of me! I was able to pick one up from my old company, as they're liquidating. Spent today installing a new modem and various and sundry other software. Feels good, and man, am I zooming!

The party is over. Back to work and school, and Dad is on his way south. We did get over 2 feet of snow which Dad and I fought with in the driveway for 4 hours. We won, though, and now the sun is shining. Now if only the snow holds off long enough for Athena and I to make our great escape.

Paula must have some good connections to get a state of emergency called in Massachusetts just so she could stay home and play. Those of us real essential workers were plugging away as always.

Melissa did well in her race yesterday (top third in a very tough group of kids). Most importantly, now she gets to relax and recuperate from a very vigorous ski season.

Another great party on Hawley Street yesterday. Thanks especially to the younger generation (Melinda, Melissa and Joe) for coming, and Paula and Dad for making the trip too. And of course to Amy and Athena for being such classy hostesses.

Still snowing here (about 6 inches so far, Monday 7 PM)

Allright. NOW is everybody ready to move to North Carolina? Though there is some talk of letting a dusting of snow into the region in the next day or two, right now the sun is bright and temperatures moderate, and forsythia a bright yellow. Happy Birthday to Athenakimoo!!! We know you read this page because we always enjoys your artful postings. Another AKS snowstorm on the way. I remember when you saw your first one, from the dining room at Montvale, looking out towards the Silbersteins. You were in Mom's arms, and you looked up at her and said "Mama, Milk!" Hope you have a great party and a great year!

And welcome, Peter, to cyberspace. Cyberspace will never be the same. §

Thanks for the quaking earth descriptions. It does sound very other-worldly. I think I prefer to just hear about and let my imagination enjoy it from afar. Mark: tell us about the French version. Mona: what happened with the job? And yes- GO MELISSA!
Paula
Saturday, March 03, 2001 at 06:48:28 (PST)
Yes, Scott...that was beautiful.

Tell us how Melissa does - take picture if you can. -- Go 'Lissa!!!

One image I can add - I had a very different experience than Steve's. I was at home, in the kitchen. This was my 3rd quake, so after a couple of seconds, I had a pretty good idea of what was going on. In my barefeet and bathrobe, I ran out the back door into the backyard. In my case, outside was a very safe place to be - our house is one story, and there's plenty of open space. I heard David on the answering machine as I was standing outside, waiting for the rolling waves to subside - but no way I was going back in to answer the phone!

So anyway, the image: as I was standing, feet firmly in the grass, it felt somewhat like being on the deck of a ship in choppy waters, though the motion was not as regular. Looking up at the very tall trees that surround us - though not close enough to threaten: the trees were swaying like crazy - but the branches hanging down - not all out to one side when the wind blows.

Hmmm...my english skills seem to be failing. Ah well, it's been kind of a roller coaster couple of weeks for me...

thanks scott for what you said about anna you said it more clearly because that was exactly what i felt on wednesday night. our party with anna is what we will remember and that is just really great. so there was a great feeling of those who are left. i looked around after seven and there were so many people in the room you would have thought she was a young person. so many contacts and family and friends. she touched many people. always smiling.

Wow, a very nice first-hand description of being in an earthquake. The "sea of cars" image is really amazing. In a way it makes me even more curious to feel like one would be like (but I'm not specifically asking for that, God, if you're listening).

Speaking of God, Anna's funeral was really quite nice yesterday. The eulogy by Virge was quite touching and beautiful. The fact that Anna had had that wonderful 80th birthday party last summer made yesterdays atmosphere much less sadder somehow; a chance to remember her fondly and sincerely, and to enjoy those who are still with us. And that includes some wonderful folks.

Good luck to Melissa in her big ski races this weekend! If you're around western MA Sat or Sun come watch her.

Well, since you asked....

Everyone's experience is different, and every earthquake is different. This is my fourth, and not the largest. The largest was in L.A. in June, 91. We were in the floor of the Disneyland Hotel. Lots of gentle, intense swaying. For this one, I had just parked my car in a large (Costco) parking lot. I was looking over the roofs of a sea of cars. It looked like a sea, because you could actually see the waves, the gentle rolling. The other two were in Seattle. One at work and one at home. The kids around here are all well-trained in earthquake preparedness. Drop, duck and cover. Generally people (at least the ones who don't freeze) migrate to the doorways or under the desks. One's natural instinct is to get outside, and many people try. But that is the worst thing to do, since the danger zone is right around the outside of buildings, as evidenced by CNN photos of Seattle's old buildings.

The things that are common to all earthquakes are the freaky feeling in the tummy, and the eerie reactions of the animals. They are the first to know. Looking over the sea of bouncing cars, the only thing I could think to compare it to would be an acid trip. Just spooky. And the adrenline changes the rest of the day. I have never been able to accomplish much after an earthquake. Well, that's my report, on location from Shaky Seattle....§

last night was a wonderful night to remember anna. she would have loved it so very many attended to praise and talk about her. i am sorry for another passing of that great and wonderful generation of the very very strong minded ..... i have never seen the family look so very well bill, bud, naki and peter. they looked wonderful and seem very happy right now. at this point in their lives. and yes the generation after them and then the young they were all there. as i left the funeral home i said to dick i adore all of those people. he agreed...we are all so very glad anna had that birthday party and now she has left behind a video of that day. she will be remembered well.

Yes, I to remember about Sunday outings at Aunt Anna's! Yes the TV was very big and fun to watch with everyone. But I remember the many, many dolls upstairs on the second floor and the kitchen filled with sweet aromas. Aunt Anna always made you feel welcome when you came to visit. She will be deeply missed by all and in our thoughts.

A fond memory I have of Anna was in September 1957. I was in bed with the flu and things were going undone. Anna came over and bathed all the kids and got them to bed. Next morning I went to the hsopital and within hours Mark was born.

I, too, will be with the extended family as they gather to say goodbye to Anna.

Steve, your posting was the first I had heard of the earthquake. See what happens when you don't turn on the TV or radio! It sounds like a big one. I don't know whether Pat and Ken awere flying in today or tomorrow. I see that the Sea-tac airport is closed. Thanks for checking in.

And Mona, it sounds like things are getting shaken up for you again (and I don't just mean geo-physically speaking). Write or call details, when the telephone lines are operative.

Wow! I don't know how big that earthquake was, but it was big. I was in a parking lot. Seconds seem like minutes, minutes like hours. I have never felt anything like that. I've been trying to call Ana and Mona, but I can't get through. Our power is out, but my laptop and internet connection still work.

Very sad indeed about Aunt Anna. I remember the day in 1963 when she heard She Loves You on the radio, and told me 'These guys [the Beatles] are going to be big. And I remember telling Paula that I had been having lifelong recurring dreams about 83 Gardner Street, and she told me that she had as well. Yes, Anna, you have had an impact on a great many, and you will be missed. I'm sorry I won't be on hand for the funeral tomorrow, I will be there in spirit. §

I remember Aunt Anna's house as full of laughter and love and music (and yes, dancing). I remember seeing my first color television at the Moser's when we went over one Sunday and caught the Red Sox game...She was greatly loved and will be terribly missed, I'm afraid.

I got laid off on Monday, and am once again wondering what to do next.

My thoughts go out to all members, past and present, of the Gardner Street Gang. Sad to see the passing of another era. Many fond memories of family get-togethers, barbeques, swimming pool, Grandma, teenagers dancing to Diana Ross and Motown tunes, and more.
Strange times here in Antibes. Big fluffy snow flakes falling today, an earthquake last weekend (4.6 on the richter scale), with warm sunny days scattered in between.
We are looking forward to visits from Steve, Ana, Dad, Mark A., Paula, Jess and Melinda. See you soon!

Glad you're home safe and sound and on the mend, Mom. You are not the only one reading the board. We just got home from the gym/pool. Ana swam for three hours. She starts swimming lessons next week. Am I the only one reading this board, or just the only one adding to it? Anyway, I'm safely (and fairly soundly) back in Brevard. Getting home gets to feeling better and better, the older I get. The thrill of travelling seems to be tarnishing a bit. But I did thoroughly enjoy seeing Pat and Ken and brother, Rex, as well as the LA kin.

Now, it's somebody else's turn.

I don't know what OT stands for but I'll bet LMAO is "laughing my ass off". Somebody is easily amused.

The pad thai was delicious as always. I had been tempted to try making it sometime, but after seeing what a big production it was when Amy was making it I think I'll just wait until it's on the menu at Hawley Street again.

Hey Mark and Paula; if you come out here on Saturday night how's this for a dinner idea: the famous spaghetti with meat sauce at Holyoke Hospital. I'm serious. Anyway, let's hope it warms up before this weekend; it's freezing outside!

Yesterday we had scott over for dinner which is always a good excuse to get amy to make pad thai. we cought up on family gossip and all got tired early ... ah weeknights ... still busy, still happy, still freezing cold. Hope you're totally better by the time you fly, mom! love to all, especially you dad whom i missed on this visit. Well i'll be down there checking on you, and your tulips, soon. P.S. i'm having a birthday party on sunday, march fourth, four to eight at my house for anyone who wants to come. Good food, fun time. Usually snows. 67 hawley st. 413-585-0174

So, did you have to cut the grass when you got home? And what is the deal, Mom? I can't believe you are wasting your time in Hawaii being sick, but then if you have to be sick I guess that would be the place to do it. I hope by now you are on the mend. More greetings from Hawaii. The sun continues to shine brightly, even when rain is also gently falling down and a rainbow hovering above the horizon.

I spent most of yesterday in bed with whichever tropical germ attacked me. It's not a bad place to be sick here, with Pat and Ken waiting on me and entertaining me. Today I'm better but, remembering Athena's experience, I'm just lolling around, pampering myself, eating papaya and hearing Hawaiian music.

We have seen wonderful sights and I encourage anybody who doesn't know where to take their next vacation to consider Hawaii. Love, to all.

We had a wonderful lamb kabob dinner last night, graced by the company of Scott, Joe, Melissa and Dad. The food was good and the company was better. This morning Dad is heading South, stopping first in Connecticut to see Naki and family. I do not quite remember how she did it but I am sure she did not see me getting out ot the bathtub. In any event she taught me how to get out without getting the floor wet. The idea was to wipe the bottom of one foot then put one foot out, then wipe the second. When out with dry feet then dry off the rest.

While living in West Roxbury with Peter, one of the many times he was making spaghetti, I noticed the unusual way he prepared the noodles. He told me that was the way he saw Joanne make them.

And so Joeanne as long as I take showers (which is not quit as often as Ramona would like), and as long as Peter makes Spaghetti , You will always be with us.

Oh wow, 'thene...I remember that so vividly too. Then I managed to have a screetcher of habit or two myself. :)

Ah well, the more the merrier, I suppose. How nice to have a shared past.

well i already told my anecdote to mom, but since we're having a little joanne fest i'll say it here too: i remember playing in the living room with leslie and pam (being our usual loud selves i'm sure) and hearing raucus laughter coming from the kitchen. upon demanding to know what was so funny i remember mom saying "you pronbably won't get it" but proceeding to tell me anyway, through giggles, (was there white wine involved?) that they had decided that we were "screechers of habit" true i find it a little funnier now than i did then. but what i really remember is thinking how strange and nice it was that grownups could laugh as much with their grown up friends as we could with eachother (and at equally inane things)... best wishes to you joanne and all you family ...so that's how steve got so modest...

My first and most vivid memory of Joanne took place at Montvale Road. I was about ten at the time and had just finished taking a bath and was coming down the front stairs (stark naked) at about the same time Joanne was coming in the front door. It was the first time I remember hearing that deep, hearfelt laugh that I came to associate with Joanne. It also marked the beginning of many years of modesty on my part. Joanne's unique perspective has enriched the many lives she has touched over the past half century plus. We're here to love you, Jo....§

Mona, how's the new job? Mark, how's the job? Mark A., how's the ever-evolving job? Athena, how's the ever-evolving life? Keep us posted.

And thank you, Kai, for your heart-felt note.

Dear Stylos-Family,

I wanted to thank all of you once again for the great time during my short visit in December: I am thinking of Ramona and Paul, not only for picking me up in New York but also for making my stay extremely enjoyable and myself very proud and happy that I have stayed with you in Amherst and now in Acton.
I am also thinking of everybody in Acton, of course, who had to suffer from the big German eating their fridge empty (hey, remember those pretzels!) and not only gave me great food but also made me feel at home.

I am also thinking of Ramona's book, the "word guessing game", the visit to Boston with Bill and Peter, dominos, cribbage (poor M!), the cats, applications to universities (good luck!), the snow, long conversations with Paul in the car, driving through Amherst...

I really hope to see you again soon and am looking forward to get to know the hilly parts of North Carolina!
Kai

Hey Kim! Thanks. I'm kind of nervous, kind of amazed that I'm starting over - again. But this time the work will be building on things I've worked on before, so that's a step in the right direction, I guess!

Why don't you send me (mona@stylos.net) your email address?

Betsy's back in school today: hopefully we've seen the last of the flu around here! So much for my 'week off'. Of course, what better way to spend it than in the company of Elizabeth Anne? Who really needs to clean the garage/closets/kids' room anyway.

I'll throw in my two cents, even though there's not much going on here in Worthington. Mostly I've been hibernating, watching videos, occasionally skiing, and waiting for longer days and warmer weather.

I didn't realize people still play marbles. That's great. Go Paul. And I hope your sister is feeling better.

Not only is Paul (the younger) a marble champion, but he did it all with his right hand, and he's a lefty!

Paula, I thought at first you were calling Jess the "spirited sister" but on second thought you were probably referring to "Otis" the feisty little girl-cat, Jess's alter ego, who has followed her to school. No?

Ramona
Monday, January 22, 2001 at 05:49:56 (PST)
Congratulations Paul, nice to have a champ in the family. Did you ever find Steve's marbles? They are such easy things to lose. I know. I took Jessamyn back to school yesterday (after the snowstorm), and we are all finding it way too quiet here; especially the cats who are missing their spirited sister. Off to work....I hate Mondays.....

my saturday was nice, too. i did go to work at the pleasant street theatre where we are now showing "crouching tiger, hidden dragon" which is a Very Fun movie. It's nice to show movies to a full, rowdy house. Today i am bringing over a few last pieces of furniture from cj's (that is, until we unearth the barn in the spring) and helping her do some rearranging with my old friend becky loveland. monday is cj's birthday (43) but i think she won't have a party for a few weeks.(in case anyone living locally is wondering) me i am having a party on the actual day of mine (which is on a sunday) i hope to get the invitations made soon. this is how i get through the winter --> pretending that march is right around the corner.

Actually, Athena, as I recall, it was intended to be Jeffery, but the bureaucrats mispelled it, and it was never corrected. So, sure, I'll take the credit, it's good to have a namesake. And you should know, even if your namesake had a 'then' ommited and a stasia added. We had a nice day today. Took a bus into Seattle, went to the new Rock & Roll museum, the Experience Music Project, went out to lunch, then went over to the local science museum. Hope everyone else's was a nice as ours. I know Paul's was, congratulations, Paul! Did you find my marbles? I seem to have lost them...§

dear everyone: well look what i started with the entire family getting into to help me get it all in order. i was delighted and started to print it out and all of a sudden i got a print out of everything everyone has ever said. so i went out of the message board, it still printed and then i went out of internet and still printed and out of windows still printing so i finally shut down. then it stopped wow i was lucky. so now i have a print out and will keep everything straight until the next generation.

congratulations mona new job sounds great does that mean i get health insurance and dental too. you said for the entire family. that is great tonight we on the coast who have only gotten rain all winter long will get a big storm. we look forward . love toyou all sue

Paul's feeling well enough to make it to his Marbles Tournament at 11 this morning. We should be home by 1PM. We're going to the Sabercat's (Hockey) game in Tacoma tonight, and that starts at 7, so I'm guessing David will want to leave here around 5. When are you going to be in Gig Harbor, and will you be visiting Aunt Pat?

So what's new? Well, I start a new job on Monday Jan. 29. I had my last day at Solthree today, and I feel like I've been through the wringer!

Basically, I was very happy there in some ways, marginally happy in others, but have had ever worsening time of it with the commute (averaging 20 hours or more per week).

Then this guy I used to work with, who takes the ferry, gets after me to check out his new company, and one thing led to another so...now I'll be testing software at a startup called Verge Wireless. I'll be building on previous experience, coding test applications, big raise plus full dental medical for the whole family and...it's located across the street from the ferry dock in downtown Seattle so - no more waiting in line with my car for the ferry. Should cut my commute in half by time, and even more than that, if you add in the frustration factor I'll be leaving behind.

Wooo hoooo!

Oh yeah, I love the new product (so far). So, after a teary round of goodbyes (gotta learn that dad thing and just duck out before any one expects it...), and with Paul in tow (he wasn't feeling well today), I closed a very pleasant, very brief chapter in my life.

Now for a hot bath!!

How about you?

mona

Yes, prolific we are. Hey, Pa(ul), look what we started. Now if each of these grandchildren has 12 grandchildren the population exlosion will really be blamed on us.

Technical correction, Athena: Jerome's birth time puts him just a tiny smidgen short of Libra. He's actually 29'59" Virgo, but the Librans, like his grandmother and his father like to claim him as one of us.

Cameron, 1999; Jerome, 1994; Vanessa, 1993; Ana, 1991; Paul, 1990; Melissa, 1988; Betsy, 1988; Jillian, 1985; Joey, 1985; Miranda, 1994; Tim, 1983; Melinda, 1983; Jeffrey, 1981; Jessamyn, 1980; Pam, 1976. Any corrections or omissions? My apologies....§

me, me, pick me to list the children! okay i've gotten in trouble more than once for getting the chronology wrong, but here goes listed according to parent : steve has timmy (capricorn) and gillian (saggitarius) as step children and daughter ana (anastasia -->scorpio); paula has jessamyn (taurus/gemini cusp) and melinda (cancer); scott has pam (aries)(technically stepdaughter but she is certainly one of us) who has son cameron, scott aslo has jeff (taurus) joey (scorpio) and melissa (taurus) ; mark has vanessa (pisces) and jerome (libra?) ; mona has miranda (scorpio) betsy (saggitarius) and paul (leo). Athena is without issue. Unless anyone wants to take issue with that. Confusing? yes. Especially with all the extra info. couldn't resist. So, to summarize here they are in approximate order, youngest to oldest. Melinda, correct me if i am wrong. Jerome, vanessa, ana, paul, betsy, melissa, gillian, joey, miranda, melinda, tim, jeffery, jessamyn and pam. so there you have it, i hope i remembered everyone Each and every one is my favorite!

She's got my low blood pressure, and we're both still feeling kind of woozy from this bug. I just HATE being sick!!!

Who's our Greek translation expert? I see the number 2001, so I'm assuming Panagiota is sending us New Years greetings. In any case, I send them right back!

And Congrats!! to Greg. And I hope you do take the job. I bet it will be quite an experience!

And Howdy Neighbor! to Paul up north. Now you've got an even better excuse for visiting the lower 48, eh?

Glad to find this site again- my son Leo decided to clean up the computer and erased all my files. All is well here. Patrice is home from University of Southern Oregon at Ashland but heads back tomorrow to our sadness. Leo hopefully will graduate from high school in May. Hope you all had fun-filled holidays and all the best for the new year.
The temperature today in Juneau is over 50 degrees, the grass in our backyard is still green and there is hardly any snow on top of the mountains. Needless to say it has been very strange and makes one wonder how the lack of snow pack this spring and summer will affect salmon returning to the rivers. We can only hope for the best.
We had hoped to see many of you during our brief visit to Boston in September for little Al's wedding but it wasn't to be. It was quite disappointing. We did manage to have lunch with Aunt Anna and Uncle Peter at Anna's favorite place in West Roxbury. Can't remember the name of the restaurant but it was a trip back to the 40's including the surly waitress.
Our love to all. Paul

boy it sure gets quiet around here when the paula / mark household is off line ... tonight i saw the miracle of snow falling out of a clear starry sky and it looked like the stars themselves were loosening and coming to earth ... soon the clouds caught up to the snow and it is a more earthly, ordinary snow shower. There's your massachusetts weather moment love to all

We have been off line for a few days at home and I finally pulled up this site at work and was very happy for news from you all. It is great to have Scott and Athena back on line. We had a wonderful (emphasis on full) vacation week, and are glad to have Mom and Dad a bit longer. I agree, Scott, I have enormous respect for Jim who is taking such good and loving care of Joanne. Mom is gong to see her most days which I am sure is greatly appreciated. Sorry to have missed you this weekend, Athena, but it sounds like your party was great fun. And Steve and Ana, you may be flying for free for years to come! Okay, now we need to hear from Mark and Mona.....

Jeff finally got his new computer, which means I finally have one too! It's nice to be online again, but the thing does take up a lot of real estate in an apartment.

Many thanks to Paula and Mark for their amazing hospitality. It's not easy being gracious hosts to so many visitors all at once. And thanks to Athena and Amy for their hospitality as well. You earned the right to be smug for sure.

My pick for man of the year: Jim Flaherty. To be able to show that kind of strength and compassion at such a difficult time is really a gift.

Best wishes to all who read these messages, near and far. Love,

Scott

Bumped! In Detroit this time. We are spending the night and headed out early in the morning. We are piling up the vouchers. Otherwise, it was a nice, uneventful flight. We earned the admiration of the flight attendants by letting Ana sit up in first class while Steve rode in coach (which Ana insists on calling second class). We leave out of here early in the morning and will be at work/school by noon. We had a great visit in Boston and enjoyed the company and the storm. We'll see you all next time...§

well we had a fun party here ---> not huge but lively ... scott came and so did joey ... guess which one wore a tiara ... joey doesn't seem so gigantic from the towering height of three inch blue rhinestone heels ... i let amy pick my new years outfit ... we spent today lying in bed playing computer games eating leftovers and smugly enjoying the sensation of having thrown yet another successful party. also we went to the movies and while i was in the ladies room i heard someone calling "tina" which of course i didn't think twice about because that's not my name anymore or so i thought .... turns out it was rollie and virgie (sp?) and their daughters and one boyfriend . i wondered when i would run into them out here, i think sue (?) works as a professor at umass. is that how it is mom? you always manage to keep up with the details of our family. any way it was really fun. thats my first anecdote of 01 anyone else? ps i finally got an email account
