We get Steve and Ana for an extra 4 days because their flight was cancelled and all flights full until Friday. The best laid plans, etc. We didn't get as much snow as was threatened but we got cold, fierce wind.
We're happy that Mark and Jerome's bags caught up with them.

His luggage is missing and the weather so cold. But we're so happy to have him around just pride and joy. Have a good trip Mark and hope everything will go well.

Mom - I just received my copy of Between You and Me and the Gatepost, and I LOVE it!! The font and printing are all nice and clean and the illustrations!! Great job, 'Liss! I've started thumbing through, and caught a quick read of "Snapshot of Jerry", and it moved me to tears ... very well done indeed. I think you're right too, about him wanting us to be happy.
Congratulations and thanks so much for doing it...love you, you are still my pal.

Yes, where is everyone? I know where I am: looking for my Halloween shirt that I only get to wear once a year. Last year we bought Halloween candy that we wouldn't mind having left over. (There was lots.) This year we got a kind that neither of us likes (but kids do) so we won't be tempted to eat it. I consider that progress, don't you?

I am enjoying a very hot weekend in Cabo San Lucas. I didn't realize that the Baja was such a desert. We were graced by three spontaneous overnight guests on the night before I left, the youngest of which was Ken Dewire. Oh to be so active when I am an octogenarian. This will be a short trip and I will be at work on Monday morning. Have a great time, Scott. Say hi to all my Appalachian relatives.

Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 08:39:56 (PDT)
A grey Saturday morning. That is bound to turn into a blazing Saturday afternoon. We've been in this weather pattern for a while. Incredibly thick fog yesterday...almost couldn't see the ferry yesterday morning as I was waiting to board: just the headlights of cars coming down the ramps to let me know where I was supposed to aim the car.
Happy last day of August!!

Happy Birthday to Dave Pingree, who seems to always have to share what should be Dave Pingree-day with Fathers' Day, and the summer solstice, and this year a whole bunch of graduations! (Not to mention Mona's birthday, coming only 5 days earlier.) But you are not forgotten, Dave. I hope your aches and pains have subsided and that you get lots of attention today from those around you. You deserve your share of the limelight.

My life has been on quite an upswing lately -- topped off by an unexpected extension to my contract (so I won't be making it to Mass. for a visit until September, Paula...sorry). My kids are all happy and healthy, so I guess I have it all!
Thanks to dad for making it out for graduation season - your presense made it all so much sweeter. Love you so much. Do let me know you got home OK and all.
Thanks to all for the loving greetings - I'll see you soon(ish)!!

Thank you, thank you, my adoring family. I think the best part of this birthday may have been the lovely words you all spoke and wrote to me. Besides that, I thoroughly enjoyed planting and weeding my entire garden (thank you Jessamyn), eating lobster (thank you Athena), frozen margaritas, and a hot tub with Athena and Jess. On the second day of my birthday (there just were not enough hours in the day on Wednesday) I bought and planted a beach rose in the yard, trimmed and mulched the yard, and threw away 57 pices of clothing. And then went to Not your Average Joe's for my free dinner and dessert, and home to watch the Celtics. All wonderful (well, maybe not the game.) I love you all. Thanks for being my family. (You too, Mark M, my adopted brother.)

I think this has turned into a birthday board! Surely other things of interest are going on in the lives of those who check in here. For one thing, I know that today is Paula and Mark Allan's wedding anniversary, and that the groom is traveling far away, leaving his bride of thiry-something years to mind the fort (and the house and the garden). Congratulations, anyway, you two.

Had a great family dinner last night with most of the Scott Stylos family, most of the Mark Stylos family and most of the Steve Stylos family. Lots of good food and laughter was had by all. So, anyway, after many many fits and starts, I will be graduating college in June - the day after Betsy does. This quarter I'm studying Byzantine History, and learning SOOO much I didn't know about Greek speaking peoples in the post classical period. It's amazing. Last week we covered the Hagia Sophia, and I was remembering the reports from Dad and Scott and Peter last year (and wishing I could go too!)
Everyone is invited to come celebrate with us, June 11 and 12. I'm sure we'll find a way to make you comfortable in our humble home, should you choose to make the trip. Tickets to the event at Husky Stadium are free, but I will need to give them a firm number within a couple of weeks, so do get in touch with me if you want to attend.
Happy Spring (and New Moon) to all!

Steve, your Easter dinner sounds delicious. There is some overlap with what we had at Paula's, but we had no baklava. And no egg lemon soup. We all also watched the same games. (In our case we followed it with a game of Joker.)
Today is Cameron's 11th birthday. He's getting tall and handsome.
This time last year, Steve, we were getting ready to come home from Spain. I'm so glad we made the trip.

Happy Athena Day!!!!!!! I'm probably not going to make the party tonight Thene, I'm battling "Head Cold the Sequel-Invasion of the Sinus Cavities," and think it would be better for all if I stay in my little home. So, I'm going to cyber-serenade you on your day:
Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.
Happy Day Athena!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lions, tigers, coyotes and lambs. What a zoo. I also saw a jack-rabbit yesterday: the kind with the long ears, not exactly an Easter bunny.

When I woke up yesterday I checked the temp.and it read 50. Wow it must be spring. I steped outside, the wind was howling. As I felt it's cold breeze I said to myself this must be the tiger It will turn to a lamb in 30 days.

You sure you want to hear about what the weather is liie here? Suffice it to say that Ken is at the (outdoor) pool and the little quail are sunning across the patio. Pat is substitute teaching this afernoon. (Her idea of fun.) Sammie and Marion will come tonight for supper and games. Tomorrow there is a "family day" for the stadium volunteers. Then the neighbors are having a pool party.
I'm aware that there is still snow accumulating in MA, so I'll commiserate (but briefly). Just remember, March is alomost here, so can spring be far behind? Love to all,

Why thank you, my ever thoughtful (((Paula))) ... we were talking about when we first kind of, noticed each other, you know, in THAT way, and for me it was sitting in your livingroom on Wilson Ave, when he'd given Athena a ride out to Northampton one weekend in 1978, after he got back from Alask.
Mona: So, what are you doing back in Massachusetts?
David: Looking for a wife.

You rented a car in Minnesota with no heat? In January? OUCH! I too have memories of that house in January. I like these circumstances much better. And speaking of me and temperature, the hot tub was put into operation today...it is now up to 67 degrees, so in a few hours it will be ready! Hurray! I expect you all to come and try it out.

Thanks to all who made our trip to Boston/New York so much fun. It was a great Christmas and promises to be a great new decade. When I arrived in Minnesota yesterday, it was minus 22. At first I thought the rental car temperature gauge must be wrong, but the radio confirmed it. Next time I'll rent a car with a heater for sure! The Gift of Life house is still all decked out for Christmas. They leave it that way until the end of January. Sure brings back the memories. Memories I didn't know I had.
