I'm sorry if all the specifics didn't get delivered in invitations: yes, the big day was Saturday after Christmas, the 26th. Everything went wonderfully well. Jeff did a fantastic job of taking pictures and has posted some on his facebook account. I managed to make it through yesterday, tying up loose ends yes, only to wake up with a sore throat and achey achey shoulders this morning and Athena and Davey are taking care of me today. Athena will be headed home tomorrow with a full report. Now back to bed. Love to all.

A wonderful Christmas was had by all here in Acton and Northampton. I think. Maybe I should just say that I had a wonderful Christmas in Acton and in Northampton. Great food, company and presents! (The new hot tub will be up and ready for action by Tuesday night!)

As Mark said, the important news of the day is the big Betsy and Josh wedding! Hopefully someone will report in here. We are ALL in attendance vicariously. Happy, Happy Day!

Paula

I don't have the specifics, but I am guessing that this is the "weekend after Christams". In which case, I send all my wishes for all the best for Betsy and Josh. Good luck to you two, and I hope you can all party to make Monday feel like, well, Monday!
In other news, we made it through the second Hump Day: Christmas. All the shopping is over, and it is probably safe to go back into the stores. The days are getting longer, and it feels like a whole New Year. Well ... almost.
Greetings to all!

Had a very nice, quiet birthday yesterday. Spent most of the day reading, then had dinner at Paul and Elizabeth's with Anne and Liss, then Mom's homemade chocalate pie for dessert. I was actually looking forward to doing some leisurely snow shoveling today, but we only got a light dusting...not even enough to pick up a shovel for.

Many thanks to all who made this one of the best birthdays ever and for all the greetings on the board. Had a lovely dinner with Athena, Jeff, Joe, Ana, Robert, Jillian, Tim, Leigh and Gregg. Hey to Mark McLaughlin! Wish you could have been here to meet some of the family members who have arrived since we last saw one another. Looking forward to coming to Boston to see everyone.

It's December 18th, Steve, so wake up and see that you're being talked about, here on the east coast and even in Europe. Yes, it's cold here. It was 4 degrees when I woke up this morning. It wasn't quite that cold, but almost, when you made your appearance on a snowy morning 58 years ago in Dayton Ohio.
We have sent Athena to deliver our good wishes to you in person. Enjoy your day!

Everything is coming along great! Mom and Miranda have really been a big help, taking on a lot of the work. I definitely couldn't do it without them. If you go to farmkitchen[dot]com, you can see the place we're having it at!

It's going to be indoors, of course. It's really cozy and beautiful inside the 'barn'. Just getting the last minute kinks worked out, but I think we're ready to go!

Yes, congratulations to you, Steve! Two years old today! May your liver and kidney outlast us all (and they probably will). I am very thankful to modern science, and honored to have been a part of the miracle. (Okay, maybe I only witnessed it, but it felt like being a part of it, in that most amazing environment.) Most of all, I am thankful to still have you as my brother.
Paula

Congratulation, indeed! The call at 3 o'clock in the morning of Dec. 16th telling us that "Today's the day" is imprinted in my memory, as it is, no doubt in yours. Tnd then the most welcome call at the same time the next moring saying that the long procedure was over and things were looking good, gracias a dios!
We're looking forward to spending Christmas with you and Ana.

Some thoughts I came across today, on Our Lady of Guadalupe:

Since 1531, Our Lady of Guadalupe, or the Dark Virgin, as she is often called, has become the patron saint of the Mexican Republic. Historically and emotionally, the Virgin is deeply woven into the life of every Mexican. During the wars of independence she was the patroness of the Mexican armies Almost every Mexican town has a church dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe. And people turn to her for help and guidance on every occasion.

The festival of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe actually begins a week before December 12. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the country—many traveling for a week on foot or by burro—flock to the Basilica of Ville Madero, on the outskirts of Mexico City, where the most impressive ceremonies in honor of the Virgin are held. The streets adjoining the church are literally packed with people who wait their turn to enter the church and make their offering.

The climax of the festival begins on the eve of December 12, when the conchero dancers gather in the atrium of the church. The name probably derives from the word concha, meaning "shell," because the mandolin-shaped instruments of the dancers are made of armadillo shells The dancing—hopping steps performed to the endlessly repeated accompaniment of one or two musical themes—begins at midnight and lasts throughout the day. Groups of dancers alternate to keep up the furious pace. The songs and dances of the concheros, who perform at fiestas all over Mexico, have been handed down through many generations and follow rigid traditional patterns.

Since it is a happy day for all Mexicans, food and drink are enjoyed by rich and poor alike, and many people will save up their money throughout the year for this special occasion.

Cold? It was 85 today here in Puerto Vallarta. Also it was the first day of a three day festival celebrating The Virgin or Guadalupe, whoever that was. Always nice to come back here. See many of you in Massachusetts on the 23rd....

Baby, it's COLD outside! We're in the middle of an early and deep deep freeze here in Western Washington. Fly away hair, chapped lips, the whole nine yards! I have been busier than I can EVER remember being before, and that's saying something. Wedding plans are moving forward, paper writing is done and final exam is looming on the horizon. I took the kids to their first ever ballet a couple of weeks ago - I figured they'd love the live orchestra, if nothing else, but the use of scenery really elevates the Pacific Northwest Ballet's version of The Nutcracker Suite to amazing levels! Then traditional 21st birthday dinner for Betsy at our favorite seafood restaurant last week. Let's see, what else? Work is going well -- it's great to have a job where I work with competent people and reasonable (if pressing) deadlines. I miss you all!! Sending you love and warmth wishes. :)

Hi Everyone! Josh and I are planning to get married the weekend after Christmas of this year! I know it's short notice, but with his Navy obligations, this is the only time we can plan on. We welcome all of you to come, and hope you will! At the same time, we understand that this is short notice and it can be a hard time of year for travel and all, so we know it won't be possible for everyone who wants to, to make it. We're very excited and happy about this, and hope you will be happy for us too! If you want specific details, get in touch with me or my mom.
love,

I had a very nice dinner with Pat, Ken, Mike, Chris and Kate (and of course Mom) in Ken and Patsy's new place in Vancouver. A very nice meal, very nice company and a very nice meal.

It is hard to believe that it has been exactly forty years since that fateful (dreadful) night in front of Midnite Foods. It certainly has been an eventful forty years. It's very hard to imagine how they would have been different had that night been different.

I bought tickets for Ana and I to come to Boston for the holidays. We will arrive in Boston and leave from Boston (12-23 thru 1-1). It will be nice to see everyone. §

Greetings from Vancouver, WA. Pat and Ken have a lovely place overlooking the Columbia River. We have done the usual: talking, eating and playing games. PLUS playing with Alexa's 11 month old baby girls. And exercising and thrift shopping. The weather is somewhat warm but not sunny (though it was when I arrived.)
I'll be back on Wed., Oct. 28. Love to all.

Thank you, all you well-wishers. I have had a great birthday, spread out over several days. It started on Wednesday when others cooked Family Dinner and treated me like the guest of honor. Then the Asian buffet lunch was delicious. On Friday we went Dancing with the Stars (the brave ones among and close to the family). The cards, phone calls and email messages were all enjoyed and appreciated. The first snow of the season was seen on the morning of the 16th, the earliest, I understand, for the snowy season to get underway (around here) in recorded history. Maybe that had something to do with my birthday, I don't know . . .

Yes, it's true, I got a job. International Program Engineer working on Office 14 - starting a week from Monday. School started last week (studying Medieval Women in Europe), and the class looks great. At least I learned how to spell "Medieval" once and for all :)

Summer is almost lingering, but fall is peeking around the corner. Betsy is gearing up for her trip to Ireland in the spring -- we're hoping Miranda will be able to join her for a bit of horizon expanding (and pub hopping, let's be honest here). I'm looking for any tips on finding cheap airfares, etc. Cheers!

Home again, home again. Feels good to be home again.

After leaving Thessaloniki, we drove down through Athens and on to Gythion, a fairly small fishing and ferry-port town in the southern Peloponessos near where Grandma came from. Very beautiful, accomodating and not too expensive. We made a trip to the town hall and were successful in in getting some records about Grandma's family (Kotarakos). All in greek of course, so it's going to take a while to decipher.

Then we drove up to the tiny inland town where Grandma was born, called Mirsini (formerly Panitsa), where we were able to meet up with some Kotarakos relatives, including Marianthi's niece who is 94 years old. Very sweet people, and very beautiful land...hills covered with olive trees and mountains in the background. I haven't looked at the pictures yet, but hopefully some of them will capture some of the beauty.

Then back to Athens were we were able to Meet with Evangelia's brother Mike and sister Aphrodite, along with Aphrodite's husband Giorgos, daughter Ionnna and grandson Giorgos. That was a real treat...lovely people and gracious hosts. The connection between the Palaskas and Stylos family goes back many years...Achilleas's sister Katerini was married to Mike's granfather Michali, and when Achilleas and his brothers came the US over 100 years ago, their destination was listed as the residence of Michali Palaskas in Lowell (a little bit of genealogical history for anyone interested).

Overall a very good trip, with chances to see some great people in some great places. Any negative aspects of the trip we will blame on the Turks (another greek tradition). Many thanks to our hosts in Greece, and to my 2 intrepid travelling companions. Yia sas.

Hey everybody, here we are on the last leg of our trip. Our whirlwind tour tour of Istanbul was, how you say, suboptimal. We got Peter to the Aya Sofya, so that was good. His legs were getting quite sore walking around, so that slowed us down, but we were able to absorb the antiquity and culture of it all. The bazaar was closed, but we did find and cross the Bosphorus bridge to Asia, with much struggle.

Then back to Thessaloniki...Dad got a bit of a cold, so we stayed there a little longer than planned, but on the bright side we were able to meet Giota's delightful husband Panagiotis. Panagiotis who works in computers...how cool is that!

Dad was working with Giota and Panagiotis trying to see why he doesn't get replies to his emails, hence the test message.

Now we are down here in Gythion to do a little sightseeing and genealogy work, then up to Athens to meet with Evangelia's brother and sister, then home! Whew!

Yia sas, see y'all soon.

Awesome. Now I am jealous!

The 7 towered mosque, the indoor bazaar, or whatever it was called (Casbah? good place to get Meerschaum pipes), and the bridge connecting Europe and Asia would be my recomendations.

Have fun!

The journey continues...we travelled from Grevena to Thessaloniki on Friday, and were warmly greeted by Andromaki and later by Ioannis. Both are looking well. Ioannis is remarried, but we did not meet his wife.

Today (Saturday) we decided to take Mark's advice and check out Istanbul. Right before we left, Giota made a surprise visit...we weren't expecting to see her. Everyone seems to busy with the upcoming elections. She is also doing very well and is also married now.

It was no problem getting to the border, but getting across the border took no less than 8 steps over a 2 hour time period and 95 euros, with not one of the border guards speaking english or greek. Eventually we got through, but once in Turkey the Garmin lady (GPS) didn't work anymore, so we were on our own for navigating. We drove through a little bit of rain, and we could see flooded crop fields on the side of the road, but now we are in Istanbul, and the weather is good, and we are looking forward to some sight-seeing tomorrow. Then back to Thessaloniki and then back to the south again, hopefully to Gythion and then Athens.

I'm trying to take lots of pictures, but sometimes the best opportunities slip by and I kick myself.

That's the latest. Looking forward to seeing you all down the road.

Had a good day here in Grevena...meeting lots of nice people including some relatives. Had surprisingly good luck at the town hall getting genealogy records. The weather continues to be very nice. Took a drive out to Filipei, high up in the mountains...pretty quiet up there now that the summer population has left. Managing to keep Panagiotis and Petros out of trouble, or at least out of jail. Tomorrow we go on to Thessaloniki to see the folks there. It doesn't look like we will make it to Istanbul like Peter was hoping to, but we still have plenty of things on the agenda to keep us busy.

Wishing you were all here. And while I'm at it, wishing the exchange rate was better.

Yia sas.

Time passes and our lives shed their loose threads. Once again we find new threads to weave new fabrics of love, laughter and merriment. It is at such times that we renew our commitment to living with grace, abundance and beauty. Abundance is not just material, but it is the wholesomeness of Being. Grace is the gratitude for Being. Beauty is the essence of Being within that emits an aroma that blesses all whom you encounter. And like children with open hearts we sing the praises of the Universe.
Bazgray2009

Gustaff Mahler das Leid von der Erde—was inspired by the poem below.

By Ruo-Ye* Brook, lotus-picking girls
Laughter and chatters among lotus flowers,
Sun shines on the painted beauty – clear in the water
Breeze lifts fragrant sleeves in the air
At the bank, who are the wandering young men
Gathering in threes and fives by the willows
Purple horses neighing pass, flowers fallen
Witnessing this, troubled and lament in vain

* Ruo Ye Brook is in present-day Zhejiang Province in China, southeast of the city of Shaoxin.

I have a question. Buddy,I swear I remember you telling me(when you were considering taking the job in germany) that they wanted you to build systems that showed patient data- a doctor could look at 1000's of pathologies instantaneously. That was 40yrs ago. Why are they argueing about it in DC?

The gravestone that Peter is talking about is a stone marked Gus Stelos in Council Bluffs, Iowa, which appears to be the grave of Kostas Stelos, brother of Achilleas, who died in 1910. If anyone wants me to email them the picture, send me an email.

And the show Peter is talking about is a comedy show in CT with Ellen Karis (a relative through Marianthi's sister). The show is on August 8th at the Comedy Treehouse in Danbury, CT. So far Peter, Dad, Anne and me are planning on going. That's the same day Melinda moves to New Haven.

David is indeed doing fine - full of P & V, as it were. 3 days in the hospital, then it's marathon training. Or something. :) No cross country motorcyle trips this summer, anyway.

Go Vanessa! Was it fun??

I'm wondering which grave marker you're talking about Uncle Peter? I'd guess the Stylos or the Straley: the Stylos one (in Newton Cemetery) just seems so perfect to me, the Straley one does look like recent work, but it's hard to tell.

Love to all!

Mona

The grave stone marking is stark. I wonder who was responsible for the work. It seems rather new. Count me in for Ellen`s act.See you all soon.

Hey, where did everybody go? Probably to Facebook or some such thing.
I'm sending good wishes to son-in-law Dave Pingree, who, I'm sure, is not reading this or anything else right now, but I'll send you my advice, anyway: Do what the doctors (and Mona) say and you'll be fine.
I had a great visit to Ky, and got back yesterday. Kathi and Chris Layne were visiting at the same time, all celebrating Rex'x 85th birthday.
Mark, Vanessa and Jerome are getting ready to go camping and visiting in New Hampshire. Vanessa cut the grass yesterday with the riding moyer.
Paul, who had a little drama over the weekend, is now feeling fine.
So what have the rest of you been doing?

Hi Uncle Paul and Aunt Romona, I am sorry I missed yesterday's event, I will look forward to seeing you at Paula's on the 20th. I hope to bring my Mom as well as othr family. It sounds like it was a wonderful time. I can add that I enjoyed the times at Montvale as a child and as a college student when Uncle Peter and I would bring me by for dinner. Many Years !!! Lou

Yes, Mona, I still have very fond and vivid memories of Montvale. Don't forget the spaghetti suppers (did we all really fit around that dining room table?!) and Paula and Mark's wedding in the back yard (Bill has seen better days!) and the impromptu sing alongs with piano, organ and guitar, hanging out on the 3rd floor with the 'big kids' (God knows what really went on up there), Paula's pottery studio on the back porch, the slide shows...I could go on and on.

Happy Anniversary to you Aunt Ramona and Uncle Paul! Thanks to you I have these wonderful memories and cousins! I hope to see you this summer. Love to you all!

Sorry to have missed it ((((Mom and Dad))))

I think many people have fond memories of the world we knew as Montvale Road, where friends became family and all were welcome. It was quite a phenomenon. The cribbage games, trying to stay up late, long enough to see arrival of visiting Bill Stylos family (when sometimes they'd show up with Chinese take-out), the Open Houses over the holidays, the cook-outs on the cool grill built into the back of the big pudding stone rock. Everyone should have a Montvale Road to look back on, to know the meaning of home. Thanks so much to my amazing ((((Dad and Mom))))

Thank you, thank you, to all you well-wishers (especially those writing from France!) We were showered with cards, flowers, chocolates and best of all, loving attention yesterday. We haven't counted up how many of the extended family were here in our house and yard, but they ranged in age from a few months (Pam Moser's baby, Jenna, to 91 (Paul's sister, Mary). We were toasted with champagne and a lovely tribute by Athena. The weather was beautiful and we two were in our glory. A big hug to all you offspring who worked together so beautifully to make this a very special occasion. We have Steve and mark with us until Tuesday, so the joy goes on, and on . . .

We had a happy time yesterday--Mother's Day. Paula has been making tiles (of various colors and designs) to go in our kitchen. Yesterday was installation day and Scott and Athena joined in to do the numerous tasks associated with getting the tiles onto the wall. We spread out all the materials throughout the kitchen and dining room so Jess volunteered to fix lunch for all of us (including Joe, Liss, Pam and Cameron and Emily) upstairs in Scott's kitchen. She made a sumptious spread and served it in the living room. I love the new look in the kitchen, and I'm grateful for all the family, including those who were only able to join in by way of the telephone.

Yo! Jeff! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and a very Happy Birthday! I know it might seem a bit unfortunate to be graduating into this economy, but it's a perfect excuse to sit back and take it easy for a little while. You have been hard at it for many years. Besides, like my mama once said to me 'Sometimes it taks a long time to know what was the good news and what was the bad news.' Happy Birthday!!!

On behalf of my adult daughter, thank you all for your birthday wishes. I know she was waiting for her rainbow-colored ((Melissa)) and was glad to see it wasn't forgotten. We had a nice dinner out on her birthday, and last night she went for an age-appropriate night out on the town. I haven't seen her since yesterday. I think she may be on her way up to Alaska on her Moto Guzzi.

Next up on the birthday roster is Jeff, who also will be getting his PhD later in May. Graduation is the weekend of May 16-17 in Pittsburgh in case any of you can make it. (I can't)

And speaking of celebrations, the current plan is to have an open house in Northampton on June 6 for Buddy and Ramona's 60th anniversary. More details to follow. If anyone has thoughts/suggestions about the planning of this please speak up.

And, of course, there will be a party for Mona's birthday, which will be at Paula's on June 20th. Mark you calendars now!

Happy Friday, Everyone. And Happy Real Patriots Day. Not a happy day to the real patriots, but happy April 17th. It's a rainy day in Seattle, you know what we say here, April showers bring May showers. It's still good to be back and finally recovered from our trip to Spain and the long ride home. Had a very nice Easter with Leigh, Gregg, Ana, Robert, Jillian, Patrick and Alia at Leigh's house. I understand that there are those who will be celebrating Greek Easter with lamb this Sunday. Wish I were there to share. I'm also trying to figure out my summer travel plans. Who will be where when?

I will be happy to send you photos, Mark. Just need to get out there with my camera in the sunshine. Meanwhile, check out the ebay link for the recently sold 1971 Pearson 30. Well, it looks like the 5 of us are back to our respective starting points in Washington State, Antibes, France and Northampton, MA, with our luggage and souvenirs, memories of paella and sangria and in one case, at least, a sunburn. I realize it takes a lot of help and cooperation to get each of us from our home in Wherever to Estepona, Spain and back, so my thanks go out to all of you who played a part, yet didn't get to see the Mediterranean. I was pleased to see, when I got back to Massachuseetts, no piles of dirty snow, but some definite signs of SPRING. Life is good!

I am so grateful for -- so much! Not least of which is the fabulously sunny weekend we had and the opportunity to get the front wall finished!

It was a great trip to Spain, but the return was, shall we say, eventful. They were shorthanded in Paris at security, so the plane had to wait for everyone, including me, to clear. When we finally took off, we got a few hours over the Atlantic and had to turn around and divert to London because the bathrooms were not working. No disembarkment in London since it was a foreign country, so we waited on the tarmac while they tried to fix things. After about three hours, they decided to go on to JFK with three bathrooms. So, a full 767 for 14 hours on a plane with three bathrooms. And of course all the flights going west from JFK were either full or canceled due to weather. So I am at a hotel in NY getting ready to leave for Seattle through LA. Otherwise, I am fine and the trip was great. Thanks to all who shared it with me!

And I am stuck here in--not a bad place to be--Paris! After experiencing 9 days of warm sunshine in Estepona I found myself in Malaga waiting for a place to arrive from Granada. And waiting and waiting. When it finally arrived (delayed by fog in Granada) it was too late to make the connection to Boston, but AirEuropa and Air France were very helpful and put me (and a couple from NH who were in the same boat, er...plane) in the Radisson and now I'm in the Charles de Gaulle airport (an impressive place, I must say) and I fully expect that my luggage and I will be on the plane around 1:00 o'clock this afternoon, arriving in Boston 24 hours later than I originally thought.
It has been a wonderful vacation and I thoroughly enjoyed having this time with sons and granddaughters and sharing all the things I love about Spain. I'm glad to see that some, at least, of my traveling companions have arrived home. Surely, by now, all of them have.
Paul, I'll be looking for you at the airport.

Greetings from the La Bomba bar on Puerto Estepona! The internet demons seem to have eaten three weeks of Stylos board messages. Sorry Thea and Caitlin. We have all made it to Spain without a hitch. Turns out the only place we seem to get internet is in the bar. We'll be sure to write our messages when we first get here, rather then when we are about to leave. And we are sure that Mom would send her greetings from the Casa. Things in Estepona are still pleasant, but much more developed since we left here 20 years ago. I guess there are no more internet cafes since everyone has internet on the cell phones. We head out to Granada/the Alhambra tomorrow, pick up Ana on Wednesday and go to Morocco on Friday. Hope all is well in Stylosville....

Things are fine here in Peoria Arizona, among the hummingbirds, quail and funny-looking cacti. Nobody sick or sneezing. Ken stays busy helping out at the baseball stadium and finding people to folkdance with. Pat teaches 2 mornings a week and cooks a lot. I sit in the warm sun a lot. It was enjoyable on the weekend when both Becky and Beverly were here. (We still call the "the kids" though they are both grandmothers.) I'm hoping the snow that has covered MA since Novermber will be gone by the time I return on the 10th. Love to all.

Thanks for your concern, but I wasn't really lost, just too far away from a computer. I didn't get any satisfaction from hearing that New England is about to be hit again with snow! (How many inches did they say, 14?) I wish you were all here with me where the sun is bright and the air and the water is warm, the humming birds are active the company is wonderful. Bev and Barry were here for 3 days, Becky got here before I did. We lose her tomorrow.
Hey! the message I was writing came back (the first one) now, what became of the second one?) Computers anyway!

Perhaps she ran off with the lion. The one that March came in like, at least on the east coast. Here, it was more like a pussycat, mild and drizzly. Kind of a typical Seattle winter day. I'll be taking a break for part of next week and going to Mexico. Otherwise the winter is progressing as was expected. I keep waiting for this global warming everyone is promising. Sorry to spend my entire post discussing the weather, but that is a sign of how much has been happening here. I have been doing a bit of remodeling, which is harder and not as much fun without brother Mark. And don't worry everyone, spring (training) is in (on) the air, and I am sure that the little lamb will be returning our Mom at the end of the month. §

I'm back in Massachusetts after a week in Florida. I see there is still plenty of dirty snow around, but then, the ground-hog did see his shadow. . . I tried to check in on the board while I was gone (really, I did) but as I was finishing up the message, I hit the wrong key or something, and it all disappeared. Maybe everybody else's messages did, too, since I don't see any new ones. So, what's new? Bring me up to date.

Would someone out there call Steve, and ask him to check his AOL mail?

To you who may be envying me for getting to be in Florida instead of New England: there is a prediction of record-breaking low temperatures tonight of 30 degrees! I'm having a really good visit nevertheless, and more reasonable temperatures are promised for Friday and thereafter. I hope the snow is finally melting up there in MA.

And how about that Punxsutawney Phil. Like the rest of us in this economic climate, afraid of his own shadow. Happy Ground Hog's Day to everyone! One of the non-denominational holidays. And in early February, just when we need it. Things are in the dull roar of mid-winter here. To me, February always seems closer to spring than fall, even though the calendar doesn't agree. Welcome home to 'Liss and Joe! Hopefully we will run into you sometime...§

Athena! How is the room coming along? Do you read this board there on Jerry Street?

I'll relieve you at the top of the board, Mona!

The guest rooms at the Manor are filling up quick. First Liss from Hawaii, then Joe from Washington, now Mark from Washington. I'll have to start preparing the scary room for use at this rate.

Still very cold around here, but at least the days are getting noticably longer (tiny bit).

Dad and Athena have been working like dogs fixing up her new Cherry St house. Maybe I won't need new guest rooms...I'll just run a shuttle bus to Athena's.

Hurray for Athena! Welcome to the space age. Welcome back Melissa! Nice to have you back on the East Coast (at least for the moment). I hear Joe will be back soon, and Mark returns from India on Saturday. Then brother Mark comes back. This must be the place to be....except that the temperature is currently -7 degrees.

Sounds like a great time, Steve. Me, I am already so tired of this frigid season; wish I was going to Mexico, or to Mumbai where the temperature is now 77 degrees!

Had a lovely dinner last night with Melya Stylos and her daughter Elena Stylos, who is up here in Seattle for a ballet audition, as well as the Pingrees. All is well here, although last night, like the many before it, was dark and rainy. The flooding seems to have subsided and things have settled into a more normal long gray winter. Mark and I will be happy for a few days in sunny Mexico next week.

I'd love to hear more about Mark's trip - even second hand accounts if anyone's got them!

As many of you know Mark Allan left for India yesterday. Due to fog in Delhi, their flight was postponed. He has the rare the pleasure of two red eye flights in one trip. The plane has left Heathrow now for the second leg of their flight and I think they will land in Delhi at 2:22am our time. Bad enough for one person but probably harder with a bunch of students. Here's thinking of you Papa!

Happy New Year, Everybody. Ana and I made it back to Seattle. A bit late but unscathed. We walked into the house just as the fireworks started on TV. Mark was not so lucky. He spent New Year's Eve in Atlanta, he should be in later this morning. Thanks to everyone who made it such and comfortable and fun Holiday Season!
