Thanks for the belated birthday wishes Steve, and Paula (and belated thanks to Paula for the Christmas and birthday gifts), and Mona (it was Saturday)! Even bigger thanks to the entire Stylos clan for making me feel like one of the family, that's a pretty special gift. That and the marble cake with chocolate frosting! Thanks Ramona!!!!!
Extra special thanks to that Scott guy for, oh gosh, everything!!!!!!!

And a Happy belated Birthday to Anne! I know it is not really late, since most of us were there to wish you the happiest live and in person, but it is nice to have you as part of our family, so I thought I would say it again.

And my sympathies to those of us who return to work tomorrow. At least it is a short week.

My, things have changed. I woke up at 9:30 thinking that I had missed all of the 'festivities' only to find that I was the first one awake (other than Mom of course). Had a very nice dinner courtesy of Pam, Kerry and Cameron last night. The rain has been doing its best to prevent Massachusetts from having a White Christmas, but is failing. It's partly sunny, mild and still plenty of the white stuff around. We'll be having dinner in Northampton tonight with assorted and sundry Stylii and their peeps. It's been a nice trip so far. Starting by getting out of Seattle just in the nick of time and spending a night in Las Vegas, thanks to getting voluntarily bumped by Alaska Airlines. Ana and I will be here until New Year's Eve, then heading back to Seattle. Mark arrives tomorrow from France, and will be here until he goes to Seattle. I hope everyone has a very nice Christmas and holiday season.

It happened again: I was not finished with my message but it was in a hurry to go, so off it went. When will I learn not to touch TAB when I'm writing on this message board! What I wanted to add is: Steve and Ana finally arrived, after a 2-day trip from Seattle. I thought they'd be tired and just want to sit by the fire but now they're off to do some Santa-shopping. I can't seem to get much support in my "Let's not do much shopping this year" attitude. Oh well, just as long as they'll join me in singing some carols on Christmas Eve and other such non-commercial activities. Ana and I have plans to make a gingerbread house, once the shopping is done. Happy holidays to all.
Ramona
Monday, December 22, 2008 at 12:46:53 (PST)
Mona, it makes it feel like you're closer, somehow, since we, also, have a foot and a half of snow. BUT the snow plows are on top of things qaround here, and Scott does a mean job with the snow-blower. Thre's a path all the way around the house, and, of course, out to the road.

Ramona
Monday, December 22, 2008 at 12:38:46 (PST)
Well here in Kingston we are totally snowbound: it's been snowing off and on for over a week - there'a bout a foot and a half covering everything, with a layer of ice beneath it all. Roads are utterly impassable and the trees are terribly burdened. Paul and Betsy did make it home last Friday, through an act of daring and courage.

We have wood and food to last the duration (hopefully), and I can do my work from home.

The scenery out the window is just incredible, if somewhat blinding. Snow plows won't make it to our neighborhood for days, I'm afraid.

Santa mom has not done a like of shopping, and it appears that that is the way it shall say. Ho ho ho!

Happy birthday, bro'. I was going to call you late last night, but I guess we have both had too many birthdays for that. Thanks everyone for the kind birthday wishes! I spent it doing something I have not done in 30 years - shoveling the driveway. We had 7.5 inches on our deck and that much on most of the driveway, at least the portion not under a tree. Ana's 17 day vacation turned into a 20 day vacation. It's been in the 20's here, so hopefully we will be prepared for Boston! Can't wait to see everyone!

Sounds like a quite a fun adventure, Paula! Sorry about the plant casualties, though.

We got hit with snow and cold temps last night and this morning it's just gorgeous out! Birds at the feeder, fire in the stove. I finished school on Friday in the middle of a wind incident - lowest recorded barometric pressure in a long long time occured right in the middle of my final. It was quite a challenging day, but now it's done.

Oh, and Mom, somethng about spiders? Here is my riddle: which is not an example of a synecdoche:
"The world treated him badly"
"All hands on deck"
"Many mouths to feed"
"The cat's meow"
Again, no fair looking it up!

Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 14:17:42 (PST)
What an ice storm! We spent the day without power, and very much enjoyed our gas fireplace which kept us warm. Not to mention our new gas stove so that we could cook! We lost lots of branches, and perhaps our big forsythia bush, lilacs, a mountain laurel, japanese maple and our mailbox. We won't really know the extent until we find a way to move all the huge fallen limbs. All night long we kept hearing creaking of the bending limbs, and crashing as they hit the ground. They did call off my work (no power at work or at the homes of any employees!), so that was fun. And then, Melinda took me to see the Celtics clobber the New Orleans Hornets at the Garden! That was great! (Sorry, Mark M, but I surely enjoyed it). That is the news from here.

Heh. No, it's me who has to worry about final exams. Betsy's work consists mainly of research, reading and writing and discussing. A lot harder than you might think. Today she is on her way to a field trip on the coast (La Push). Lately she's been doing research into grad schools (history major) with an eye toward teaching. Let us know if you have any thoughts or suggestions!

See, Al? All it takes to wake up the message board is a less-familiar voice. Things are fine here in Northampton, MA and with Steve's report of a clean bill of health from the Mayo, we will all have plenty to be thankful for when we sit down to turkey with Paula's family in Acton, MA. I wish for all of you, down there in Mississippi, to have a very good Thanksgiving Day also.

I'm not hibernating, although there were times last week when I felt that I should be. I arrived in Rocheter on Wednesday, and that night it snowed a bit and some froze on my rental car. It did not melt until this morning! Anyway, left Rochester this afternoon with a very clean bill of health, and arrived in Chicago, where I'll be peeling potatoes and waiting for Ana to arrive tomorrow evening. Looks like it will be another great Thanksgiving in Obama-town. I hope everyone out there in Stylosland has a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving! And Paula, I hope your house is done enough to have the break-in feast.

Betsy and Paul are home for the Thanksgiving break -- and still asleep, can you imagine that? I'm working on my final paper and my real work work, David is managing the feast. Frost came before I got all the peas picked, and so it goes...

And now it's time for birthday greetings in honor of two beautiful granddaughters, Ana and Miranda. (Or if we're doing it in chronological order, Miranda and Ana.)I hope there is ice cream and cake and presents, and not too much singing of "Happy Birthday to You". If school interferes with your being Queen for a Day this year, just wait until next year when November 7th comes on a Saturday and you can celebrate from morning till night.
Have a great day, both of you, and then write and tell us about it. Sending love.

I forgot to pick up a copy of the newspaper today :(

Wednesday, November 05, 2008 at 21:20:33 (PST)
Happy Birthday, Mark! I celebrated your birthday in style, I hope you did, too. I went to the campaign staffers victory celebration in Cleveland last night and stopped by Chicago on my way home. I picked up a copy of the Chicago Tribune with a full front page photo of Obama with the caption "Our Next President". The entire front section was devoted to the election and this was not a special section, it was the actual news section.

If it took a financial meltdown to knock some sense into these American voters, all I can say is "It was worth it!".

The trip to Cleveland was a trip to remember, sharing the election with an inner city black neighborhood.

I even made it back in time to have lunch in Seattle with Jim Whitaker, the first American to stand on Everest. I didn't know that he was with RFK when he died and was a pall bearer at his funeral. He was as jazzed about yesterday's election as anyone I talked to.

All in all, a Mark's birthday to remember...§

Hey Denali Joe (not to be confused with Joe the Plumber or six-pack Joe) if you are anywhere near a computer you will know that there are a bunch of us wishing you well and a Happy Birthday. We miss you around here, especially on Wednesday nights when we depend on you to mash (and eat) the potatoes. The West's gain is our loss.
And Steve, what an exciting life you are leading. Can't wait to talk about you about Mexico, and Ohio at election time. Keep 'em honest!

Happy Birthday to Denali Joe! Looking forward to seeing you in Washington in the near future.

I'm back from the 95 degree heat of Mexico into the cool rain of Cleveland. Mexico was, always, a ton of fun. The election energy here is off the charts. I have been in training all day with about 250 other lawyers. We will be added to the 1200 that have already been trained in Ohio alone. People don't beleive when I tell them that the last election I was involved with was when Jerry and I handed out Kennedy buttons and bumper stickers in 1960. It will be a long day for me tomorrow. Being at the polling place by 6:00 a.m. until closing, whenever that is. Then watching the returns all night only to be at the airport by 4:30 a.m. to make a flight that will get me to my 12:00 meeting in Seattle. Wouldn't miss it, though. Don't forget to vote, everyone!!!

I am back in the Pioneer Valley after a real good week in Brevard. I got out just in time: it was snowing when I left, although we had had good weather before that. We drove up on the Blue Ridge Parkway on sunday to see the NC foliage at its peak. As always, it's good to be back home.
Ramona
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 08:00:54 (PDT)
Things in NC are fine. We are headed downtown for the Transylvania Halloween celebration and to go to O.P. Taylor's (the toy store) for a new game. The sun is out after a day of much-needed rain. The white squirrels are still multiplying. Wish I could bring a couple home with me.

I'm reporting from Brevard, NC, where I
am visiting Jill and other good friends. I haven't seen any white squirrels yet, but I'm sure I will soon. The sun is bright here today. The leaves are not near as colorful as they are in New England. Maybe it's too early. It's good to be here.
Last week with Pat and Ken was great.
I'll be back home on the 28th.

Hello and Howdy to the Clan,
Ken and I are having a wonderful New England autumn complete with fireworks leaves and blue skies. What fun to be in on all the festivities: Ramona launching out onto her 81st year, of which I have shared 69...more or less, and Athena becoming Happy Hannah Householder... Playing Imaginiff and Apples to Apples, getting to know Cameron, Jess and Melinda. I love you all. Aunt Pat

Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 20:45:20 (PDT)
Thank you, thank you, to all of you who sent me such loving messages. I have read them all over, several times. It has been a great day. This morining Patsy went with me to a seminar I had scheduled, in which I was to make a presentation. She was my "show and tell." Then Ken joined us for lunch at Paul and Elizabeth's (restaurant). Later in the day we drove up to New Hampshire where Conor, Pat and Rex's grandson (he is also my great nephew) is now living. We all, and Conor's sweetie drove to Keene for a delicious Thai dinner, then it was home again. Paul watched the Red Sox get eliminated from the play-offs while Pat, Ken and I watched McCain, Obama and Bill Maher make light of a serious situation. There were flowers delivered to my door (thanks, Jill and Don) and cards and calls and oodles of good wishes. Not a bad way to wind up 80 years on this roller-coaster called life. In less than an hour I'll start my 81st year, feeling rich in family and friends. Mil gracias.

A very sad shock indeed, the passing of Sue. She was always one of the strongest, wisest and most grounded members of our family and she will be missed by many. Me again. Almost done with a tough week - 6AM get ups in order to get to early morning training. Yikes. Then there was the one boat out of service thing, starting Monday at 5AM...kind of a little wrench thrown in my plans. I saw a fox (I think - maybe a coyote?) in the road this morning at dawn, then a Blue Heron taking off over the Sound as the boat was pulling in to Edmonds. Really a nice way to start the day. Except of course for the 6AM thing.

I was surely sorry to hear of Sue's passing. She was a lovely lady, and I always enjoyed her company. My condolences to all the Straleys. Such a sad thing.

The sun is shining in Kingston this morning and it's just heavenly. So the fall is off to a great start here abouts.

OK, so on to your question, Paula (did you get email from me a couple of weeks ago?)...

The new job is International Program Engineering for a web design product. Still working as a contractor (vendor) at Microsoft, but the work will be building on what I was doing last year - very interesting (to me) work and I'm looking forward to it!! I start on the 22nd.

Paul will be moving down to Olympia next weekend and then we'll really get to see what this empty nest thing is all about. The weather has been heavenly, as it always seesm to be this time of year. Betsy and I put in some peas, carrots and lettuce in the beginning of August (very late, yes, I know), and we make get a harvest yet!

It looks like maybe I'll be able to actually take a vacation next June. Can you say 50th birthday party??

Somehow the world gets to be a better place when I read postings from Sophie. I get the feeling things are good for Jerome and Vanessa and that Sophie is well. I can only hope Vanessa's 10 hour daily schedule is not too difficult and my only advice is to study hard,do well, and good things will happen. And Jerome keep on working we are all pulling for you. Thanks again

Let there be no mistake I am grateful for every day except the last day when the red sox blew the last league game they will ever play at the house that ruth built. I have just returned from 5 days in New Hampshire with my old friend Laurie. The weather was great. (The best week all summer, the natives told me.)I traveled by bus and in spite of 2 bus break-downs on the way up, it was a very good vacation.
Mark and Scott are getting ready to take the Vanagon on a weekend camping trip. (Gotta enjoy this dry clear weather while we've got it.)Only one more week until Labor Day and all that September brings. Summer is always too short.

The search is turning into an end-of-summer/beginning-of-school job. I've applied at Borders, Blockbuster, the library at school, the bookstore at school and the computer center at school. It's turning out a bit harder than imagined. But I just got back from a very wet 3 day camping trip to the Olympic National Park and will continue on the job hunt, wish me luck!

Oh, and I forgot the one piece of news I do have: yesterday I was walking in Redmond and this girl (woman) was looking hard at me as we approached each other, and as we passed she said "is your name Mona?" ... "yyyyessss" ... "Stylos?" ... "yyess" ..."It's me, Chrisine Guenther"!!! You could have knocked me over with a feather!! She and her husband own a travel agency in Redmond (next to Thai Ginger, my favorite restaurant in the world", and has been there for 4 years -- how many times did I walk past while she was inside working? Anyway I got a quick update on her brothers (Mickey is a doctor in Florida) and sister and mother, and a promise for another get-together soon. She looks great, and I must say it totally made my day/week/month! Here's to old friends...

Well it's been a summer of things breaking for me...just got my washing machine situation back in order, and David fixed the oven door. My computer died and was sent in for repair/replacement, but it took my email files with it. I've been using an online webservice to retrieve email the past couple of weeks, but that site is now apparently down. Temporary I hope. Till then I've got this board and my phone if you feel like reaching out and touching me.

It's a lovely day in Kingston today - Betsy and I had planted some peas and carrots and I'm having fun watching the baby plants poking their heads up. Less fun with the mole that's wrecking havoc in the yard ... But it's the weekend, so I'm pleased as can be! Hope some of you got to catch the meteor showers and/or the solar and lunar eclipses. Love ya,

Happy Birthday, Paul!!! We wish you the best for the rest of the summer, college and on an on. As for the summer here, Maine was awesome, Massachusetts has been great and we are headed to the Vineyard and the Cape for the balance of my stay. It must be old age, but I am still a little confused about the baseball trades. The Yanks got Pudge and more, the Angels got Teixiera, the Brewers got Sabathia, the Cubs got Harden, the White Sox got Griffey and the Red Sox gave away Manny. Hmmm. Sounds like the Red Sox have been taking Mariner lessons.

I think of you often as well Mona. My life as been so obsorbed with the divorce, that I feel as though I have been living in a bubble for the past few years. Things after 9/11 really went down hill with my marriage. I t was not strong enough in the beginning to withstand souce a tragedy. 9/11 just sped things up a bit. Finally things are a little calm, although I will not reat until I have full custody of my girls. We have joint custody, and it is a nightmare. The girls do not enjoy their time with Mark.. He is not a very nice person to say the least. But the courts now are in favour of this joint custody thing. I will win eventually. It will just take a little time and paitience. What is going on with you? love, Kathy

Betsy got in late last night (or rather, early this morning), and she was delayed by thunderstorms too. She says there were lightening strikes all around as they were trying to take off -- fun!! But she's home safe and sound now, and I'm so glad!!

It has been beautiful here for the past few weeks. And I, too, have been looking forward to vacation. It's been quiet here in Bellevue, and Ana and I have been enjoying the peace and quiet before the vacation storm. I'll be arriving on the morning of the 22nd. Ana will be arriving on the morning of the 28th. See you soon!!

Hi 'thene!!

I hope you will remember (though I'm sure you'll be incredibly busy) to give Ron and Jack my best wishes -- should prove to be a wonderful celebration.

I'm enjoying getting to do quite a bit of my work from home - I finally broke down and told my manager this is what I'm doing and she's perfectly fine with it. Phew :)

It's been an amazing month here, weatherwise. Moles are going nuts on my lawn (grrrr). Paul is enjoying the tail end of his freedom before school starts and the 3 of us west coast Pingrees miss our husband/daughter father/sister terribly, but are very glad they got to have this time with the rest of you 'uns. Now everyone keep their eyes and ears out for possible software test/international development jobs for me and maybe you'll see lots and lots more of us. Once I graduated from UW, which I'm hoping will be by next June. Can't let my kids hit that milestone before me.

Thanks for all the hosting and caring and being, all you Styloses and kin!

Vanessa has passed her "International Brevet des collèges" which is a French diploma given to pupils at the end of the Troisième (Year 10 / Ninth grade), similar level to the British GCSE. To be awarded a Brevet, pupils must achieve a minimum of 170 points (out of 300). These points are awarded over the course of two (one from 2007) years via tests in each subject (le contrôle continu) and in a final exam at the end of troisième, also starting from 2008, a certain level of knowledge in a foreign language is required as well as basic skills in the use of a computer and the Internet.

Well Done
Have a great day

I guess we're going to have to update the picture of you holding the little bunny one of these days. Our little Liss is all grown up!

My sympathies, Mona, for having to endure more snow! I guess you don't want to hear about our 80 degree weather. It even got us out for some window washing. Monday should be about perfect for the Boston Marathon, with just enough clouds to keep the runners from over-heating. I would like to be there watching it all from our spot on Heartbreak Hill.

Mark!! I had a dream about you last night ... we were at a party at the Stylos house, and there was no cheese or chocolate, so we hopped in a car and went down to the local cheese and chocolate shop ... it was actually quite funny and I'm sure I can't do it justice with words. Then I thought I'd post about it, but that everyone would think I was weird (duh!).

Week 3 of work is done and I'm in a fine Friday night mood. We've been promised a warm mid-spring weekend and I'm almost done with the taxes!! And the 150 pages of reading about/from Sir Isaac Newton that needs to be done by Monday, so I guess life is pretty fine.

Love to all - what's up?!

So, to continue with the food theme ... David and I indulged in corned beef and cabbage, soda bread and salmon, Guiness, Jameson and all things Hibernian.

All that in celebration of, well, yes, St. Patrick, but also of my new job, which I start on Monday. This is an open-ended contract at Microsoft working on automation of International testing, so it should be very interesting and rewarding for me. Another perk is it will allow me enough flexibility to continue with my studies. Which means, come the fall, there will be 4 Washington Pingrees in college at the same time! Hooray!

Well, I had a wonderful time in Mexico - the more I go there the more I like it. And from old friends to family, I'm now in Arizona with Mom (for 14 more hours), Patsy and Ken. Off to start spring training tomorrow (I sure hope I make the team) by seeing the Cubs and Mariners. It's easy to forget that it's been a long cold winter while surrounded by warm sun and baseball. Too bad we have a few months left before it all makes its way north. Sorry I missed Paula, but it was sure nice to see everyone in Rochester. Until next time....

It was the practically perfect vacation for me (with the major oversight of missing mom). I have very distinct memories of Dad picking me up, then Dad waving goodbye ... all so fast.

Some of us are not exactly on the move, but SNOWBOUND!!. I, for one, am thrilled. It did put the kay-bosh (sp?) on some of my plans, but opens up room for new plans!

I'm having a really great vacation filled with all the things I've longed for - time with family, the sound of blue-jays, a snowstorm, reading, singing, lounging in the claw-foot tub! More fun on tap - going to the Iron Horse for some live music on Monday, then a couple of days at Paula's house where I hope to cater to her after-work and dinner whims. Love to all,

mona

Vanessa is still in Brussels as her flight was cancelled she managed on her own to get onto another flight. Well done, to her. She should get here this afternoon (French time). Steven, should not you still be resting? Already on the move? Thanks to you and Mark. Jérôme had one of the best day of his life, not only did he ski but he got what he has wanted and waited so patiently for such a long time!!! So, with kids so happy I can only be happy now. As for Vanessa, she will be starting to work for a week as part of her school program next Monday. Is she going to wear a skirt or a dress??? Thanks to all of you. Love.

Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 12:40:05 (PST)
Well, first full day of (the rest of my life??) vacation here. Yesterday morning I arrived at the airport 2.75 hours early, and good thing I did, because in reality I was 21.25 hour late ... seems my reservation was actually for Monday. As you can imagine, my heart just sank, and I was scolding myself up and down. Lucky for me, the person who could make it all right (customer service supervisor) was there at the time, waved his magic wand and - I was on my way again, for the mere charge of 2 dollars and 50 cents. Phew!!

The trip from the airport went more smoothly: we took our time, had our patience intact during the rush hour commute, let this last minute merger in front of us, then, when we got to the toll booth, we found she had paid our fare for us!! When does that ever happen???

Got to Northampton in time for a nice late supper with Jess at the Blue Bonnet Diner, watched a snow squall swirl by the window, then back to the house for a Celtics game and a nice relaxing bath in the claw foot tub.

May you all have such happy, peace filled days!!

Mona's flight left at 8:45 a.m. pacific time, this morning. She should be in around 5. Our trip was uneventful to the airport, except for a comet streaking across the sky as we crossed the puget sound at 5:30 this morning from the Bainbridge Island ferry boat. I take this as a sign of a good trip for Mona, and lots of happy memories.

Peace out,

Ping

Mona! Have you left? When do you get here? Be sure to wave to Mama and Yaya if you see them in the air and call me when you arrive. I will be stopping at Stately Stylos Manor probably a little after 7:00 PM Hope to see you then and there. Happy travels. Oh and to anyone concerned about Mama on her long solo flight, her indelicate fall during the last snowstorm is finaly paying off. As she will need to walk around frequently, she got moved from the middle to an aisle in the exit row. Yeaaaaaaaa! I'll be waiting to hear that everyone has arrived safely.

Well, today, Miranda was my Athena ... that is: she made me go out into the garage and make decisons about all these boxes and bags of stuff!!! We had a full load that went to Goodwill and a half load that went to the dump and my oh my!!! How wonderful to make progress on that front -- Miranda is my hero!!

I'm making a quick trip to Massachusetts, leaving on Tuesday next.

Looking forward to some time with friends and family, and soon -- SPRING!!

It's been rainy and blustery here in Santa Cruz, but nothing like Rochester! I complain if it gets below 40 degrees, I'm such a wimp. I've been at my new job for 3 weeks now, using my new GPS to find the homes of all my patients scattered around Monterey County. Steve, it does my heart good to know you've got siblings around, and that you're getting out and about. My mom (Patsy) spent a few days in the hospital in Arizona with a bad case of pneumonia. But she got very good care and is now back in her rental house, on oxygen and various meds for the time being, but feeling much better. Whew! Stay warm, you all!

Greetings from Tequesta, Florida, where the weather is nothing like Minnesota. Paula and Athena, I'm glad to know that you had a good trip home, and sorry to hear that Jess is sick! We (Jill, Don and I) had a fun evening of Rummikub and Quiddlers and now I'm looking forward to a long walk this afternoon among the palm and banyan trees. I would wish for everyone enduring a long New England (or Minnesotan) winter a week in Florida with good friends. Love to all.

1/25/08: Final Report. Yesterday we braved the cold (Mark, Athena and I) and walked the block to the underground walking tunnel. We took out own tour of the shops, the clinics, the hotels etc.. Then we got to meet Steve's amazing doctor, and watched his antibiotic infusion. Athena and I then got our blood drawn. (Later we found out that my label had fallen off so I got to do it again!). But Athena had even more fun because they treated her to a 24 hour pee collection. She became very attached to her bottle. We topped this off with a trip to the Outback (thank you, Steve) which was very delicious. After another evening of family tv time, Athena and I returned to the hotel for a night of tv in bed. This morning we had our final jacuzzi, hurried off to stop by the clinic, pick up Mark, and head to the airport. Our trip home was much simpler than our trip there. Now I am back at Jessamyn's...who is sick in bed. I will play nurse tonight and be back in Acton tomorrow. This trip reminded me of how grateful I am for all of my siblings. Love to you all!

By now, Paula and Athena should be on their way from Chicago to Hartford. It sure was nice to have them here. And thanks for the gifts! Now that they have gone, the temperatures are up in positive territory. The current plan is to head back to Seattle on February 8th, barring anymore surprises. I'll miss Rochester, but will be awful glad to be in my own home and starting on the next chapter. Thanks to all who have been helping me through these trying times!

1/24/08. To begin with it was -15 when we woke up this morning. We felt guilty having taken Steve's rental car and leaving him to take the shuttle to and from the clinic this morning (sorry Steve). Instead we went to pool, the hot poolside spa, and back to our room for a jacuzzi. We will be bundling up shortly and heading over to meet up with the boys. (That is if I can pull Athena out of the warm bed to which she has retreated.) Last night we had Steve's spaghetti sauce, which was quite delicious. I napped by the fire while Mark played the piano. Steve napped on his recliner, and Athena was wandering the old building. Today Athena and I get to meet Steve's doctor and offer up some blood. Then Steve has promised us a steak dinner to replenish our supplies. More later.

It is so good to get news of whar is happening in Rochester. And by the way, it allways reminds of what I would say as I was growing older and poeple would ask "what have you done that you are most proud of?" That was easy I would respond that I fathered seven kids and am proud of them all. I don't know if I believed it then, but as it turns out it was very prophetic. I have aways wondered how good you were even if you got in trouble. I quess I was born lucky. ps

01/23/08: today we went on the mayo tour and saw a lot of pictures and the most beautiful art deco building and heard the carillon being played (well, only those of us willing to do outside really heard it) still cold, still minnesota. sunny today. steve came with us on the tour, then sowed us the model man with removable organs so we could have a reanactment. but it didn't take us eleven and a half hours. Roast beef sandwiches for lunch. That's it for now!

1/23/08: We went on the "Art tour" yesterday, which we strongly recommend to anyone who happens to be in Rochester Minnesota. Today we tour the Mayo clinic which by the way, certainly feels a lot like a five star hotel. Athena and I are happiy enjoying our spa, as well as some great family time with the brothers. Yesterday we went to a Greek Restaurant. We thought we would impress them because between the four of us we figured we made 2 full Greeks. Alas, they were Romanian and Russian and not impressed. The food was great though, and tasted authentic to us. Then we all settled in for an evening of Boston Legal in the ballroom. Steve knows how to be a great host, even from a recliner. And I am going to remember what a great Caregiver Mark is, just in case...

Report 1/22/08-A: We had a great day yesterday with the boys. We got to see the wonderful Gift of Life House, and the wonderful people who dwell there. One of us (guess who) watched two of us (guess who again) nap in the afternoon while Steve had a doctor's visit. We cooked a roast beef dinner with all the trimmimgs, then we all found a lovely little room to watch October Road. It snowed heavily all day and one of us enjoyed the slipping and sliding of the rental car way too much. It is so cold the snow never melts, just squeaks and blows around. Today is bright sunshine. Steve as always is in good spirits. We plan on taking the "Art Tour" at the Mayo this afternoon. In case you are wondering, we have already worked out and enjoyed the jacuzzi this morning. We plan on a midnight swim tonight. Wish you were here.

P.S. Scott: Thanks for reminding Athena...she came back to he hotel room and jumped on the bed.

Yes.

I spent the morning on Bainbridge - met up with Miranda, then on to the Doctor's office where they informed me they no longer will do blood draws that aren't ordered by their own staff. The blood lab Dr gave me the name of a place in Poulsbo that may do it, so I'll follow up on that.

It's a gorgeous, sunny, cold day in Kitsap. Betsy's home for a couple of days and as always, it's great to have her around. Paul too, of course, but, well, you know what I mean...

For those of you who don't know, I was back in the hospital for a few days with an infection. It seems to be under control and I am back at the Transplant House and feeling much better. I'm making my first venture out into the real world tomorrow, with my old friend Michael Murphy. We are driving up to St. Paul to be part of the live studio audience at the taping of A Prairie Home Companion. As if you can call that the real world, were all the women are strong, all the men are good looking and all the children are above average. Tomorrow it may or may not get into positive territory tempature wise. Brrrr. Hope it's warmer in the rest of Stylosville.

I took Jerome and Lucas on a short (4 mile round trip) hike to Wallace falls on Sunday. I’ll send the pictures to Mark and Steve. It was a beautiful spring like day, probably 60 degrees (16 celcius), and bright sun. The peaks had snow on them, and the mountains glistened in the sun!

Jerome has been getting the hang of our household routine. He’s learning the chores, and is getting used to all the activity. With no less than 4 teenagers under one roof, it is more like a circus than what he is used to, I’m sure. He seems to like it ok here, but I’m only guessing because he doesn’t say much! He is quite a pleasant young man.

Steve, I hope you’re recovering as expected and that you’ll be well enough to get beat in next year’s guest guesser.

Go Chargers!

Happy New Year to All!

Steve, I am hoping that you are feeling stronger each day and enjoying each moment! Be patient with yourself and rest too! This New Year was the first one in a couple of years that I enjoyed being healthy and not with the white suits around me! But I did not see the ball drop though-I guess that is the young age that we are.

Hello to Pam and Cam and readers everywhere. Things here in MN are great. It has been a good week, here with the bro's....Steve is looking good and making good progress. Under the skilled care of the folks at the Mayo, and personal caregiver Mark....he couldn't be in better hands.

Tomorrow I fly home, so I'll see some of you soon. Try to get me some nice spring-like conditions for my return!

Dad, I got you some "Happy New Year" chocolates, then remembered you were visiting Steve. I will try my best to save them...not making any promises. :)
Send Steve well wishes and hugs from Cam and I.
Have a fun visit! See you when you get back to the valley.

The boys in Minnesota are well....cold. The day started out below zero and never got much warmer. We did, however, have some great steaks at Outback (Thanks, Scott) and have comfortably settled into our room with the Celtics on the (internet) radio. It don't get much better than that! We wish a very Happy New Year to Stylos Nation.

A Happy New Year to you too, Vanessessa! It is very cold here, but I bet not as cold as it is for the boys in Minnesota. How are you guys doing?

Thanks for the ride to the airport Anne! And thanks to Mark for picking me up in Minneapolis and bringing me here to the Gift of Life house. Steve is looking good, sitting in his recliner with his laptop on his lap. Now to grab a bite to eat and explore the place and relax. Then maybe I'll take the time to read and enjoy Mona's poem.

I dropped Scott off at the airport around 8:00 this morning, so hopefully he's well on his way to Minnesota right now to join the other Stylos boys.

Happy 2008 to everyone!
