Here's a toast to all five Darling Dads in this family (4 of whom are probably in the same room at this moment, watching a ball game, along with 5 or 6 of their adoring offspring). And hopefully, Mark Allan is getting treated like King for a Day by wife and daughters. You ALL deserve everything good!

Sorry my HTML skills leave something to be desired.
But anyway, consider me virtually out there celebrating and having a great time with yous guys on this special day. Sure wish I could be there in person, but they made this darn country too wide from side to side. At least you have fully half of the fam damily out there to cheer you on. If the momentum shifts anymore I might have to move out there too!

Hey! An earlier bird beat me again. Happy Birthday Mona! I hope you are celebrating, and are being celebrated, in the style you so richly deserve. This is THE day of the year with your name one it, so make as much fun/trouble as you can! We will have to co-celebrate with the big birthday boy later this summer.

Happy Birthday to Aunt Ginny! Hope things are going well for you, and hope to see you this summer.
And happy belated to Beverly - who always shares her day with Old Glory.
And welcome, Dad - how long will you be staying? And just let me know if you want me to stop by and pick you up on my way home from work, some day - the Kingston Kiddies would love to see you!

we are im seattle and I drove steve's car. What an expierience. It was raining and the warer drops were going up instead of down, the wind was blowing and the car seemed to be gluiding and the car was so heavy and felt so strong I thought I was flying instead of driving. All in all a very pleasant feeling. Panos

Well, I've been tossing around the idea of re-entering school this fall, and I finally emailed my advisor about it, and it looks like it will all fall nicely in to place.
Then I looked at the fees (they've more than tripled since my last attemt), and realize I will have to not only save every penny, but will have to work every day I possibly can till then.
Which means my trip back east will probably be an airplane affair instead of the drive I would so love to do...hopefully we'll be able to round up all significant parties (Miranda, Betsy, Paul and David) to make it as well...

So, Mona, what happened between &:00 AM and noon that changed (affected) your direction?
My dad would be 105 today, if he hadn't died almost exactly 20 years ago. Happy Birthday, Dad, wherever you are. I just had a birthday lunch with a friend, Allison, who is 60 today. Lots of special days in June.

what a strange feeling driving on I 90 going west. It has been so long sinvce a made a trip like this and it is amazingly nostalgic. Like maybe I have been here all the time. It is a warm and comforting experience and almost like someone is watching over you and won't let anything bad happen. Everything is so understandable and you don't even know why. What is more you don't even care. Maybe it will continue all the way to Seatle. panos

A great time indeed. Jerome did get autographs from Red Sox Matt Clement and Edgar Renteria, as well as Cubs Mark Prior and Mike Remlinger. He did not get Nomah's, but not for lack of effort, as he poked his way through the crowd, following Nomar down the foul line. Both Dad and Jerome also got game balls from the ball man. A first for Dad, after 60 ssome odd years of going to games (Jerome did get one last year at the Asheville Tourists game).
We are overnighting in Blue Earth, Minnesota, and head out in the morning. For those of you that do not know Blue Earth, it is, of course, the home of ... The Jolly Green Giant (Welcome to the Valley!)
Mark
Sunday, June 12, 2005 at 21:12:59 (PDT)
Jerome and I are home from Chicago. What an awesome trip! Even if the Red Sox didn't win, Jerome got autographs and baseballs. He had a Cubs hat (from his little league team) and a Red Sox hat (which he got at the game) which he wore depending on whose autograph he was seeking. Everything worked out swimmingly and Dad and Mark are driving back across the country. They are in Minnesota tonight and should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Truly a weekend for the memory book...§

Cool-o!
I'm sitting at the ferry dock in Edmonds, waiting with the weekend vacationers to get on my boat to go home...using the wireless connection the ferries provides. Listening to the Mariners (who are faring much better than the Sox did today).
Not much news - have to renew my license this weekend - my old one is 6 years old, and, well...it's not all that accurate anymore, what can I say? Also going to see my friend Ken (who made my guitar) perform Sat night, unless I run out of steam before 9:30!
Sure am glad it's the weekend - glad Dad will be out here for Father's Day - the first one I'll get to spend with him in probably 25 years. Wow.
Hope all's well with my lovely family. Would love to hear check ins from Straleys, Mosers, Helmars, Hansons et al! Love,

Hey Andrea, so glad you enjoyed the surprise. Your Mom sent a package to my girls many years ago, I think when she cleaned out your and Thea's room. It had some great stuff, including these slippers that both Jessamyn and Melinda happily wore. I am happy they are finally reunited with their rightful owner.

I received an amazing package in the mail yesterday.
Thanks Paula! She sent me my old ballet slippers.
I think I was 4 when I took ballet. I have so many questions....where did you find them? How did you come to aquire them? In any case, thanks so much. Sophie thought it was funny that she couldn't squeeze her 4 year old feet into them :)

Paul is in Chicago. So is Mark. Steve and Jerome will be arriving today. All this to see the Red Sox take on Chicago. They have already met Red Sox fans who have come from afar to see the game. (There are baseball nuts everywhere!) Look for the Stylos Boys on the front row when the camera pans to the hitter. In the meantime, I guess we can pray for good weather for Saturday afternoon.

Thank you, O family of mine, for all for your happy wishes. I had a great day here in the sunny Northeast. I played in the dirt (planting) and the clay (with Athena), purged my 52 pieces of clothing, ate lobster, had a picnic with the birds, and heard from all my family (even Melinda in China). I received flowers in the mail (thank you so much Mona) and had all the kids in an unnamed child care center in Vermont serenade me. What a great day. Thank you all for being my family and celebrating with me.

Whew, busy weekend. Good thing I'm back here at work, so I can rest up. It's official....Melinda is a Smith College graduate! (if she can find that lost library book!) There were lots of proud family and friends on hand for the festivities.....Saturday turned out to be a beautiful day for a cookout...which is what we did...with about 22 of us on Wilson Ave. Sunday AM Melinda and her roomates gave a very elegant brunch, which was followed by the official commencement ceremonies. In the afternoon some of us watched the baseball game which Mark managed to feed from the computer to the television, and then we had a big spaghetti dinner (thanks Dad!) followed by ice cream sundaes (thanks Thene!) followed by paper boat making, painting and sailing down the river by candlelight. Whew. And thank goodness for paper plates. And Hooray for Melinda!

Liss and Joe and I are here in Pittsburgh on our annual spring trip to visit Jeff. Liss will be back here in the summer to take some precollege classes. We are going to help Jeff look for a house to buy while we're here. Liss is happy because Jeff gave her an antique sword for her birthday. En guard, world!

I arrived home as scheduled. No mishaps or inconveniences. It's good not to be sleepy even though it's now midnight! Let's see how I feel tomorrow when it's time to get up.
Thanks to all of you who hauled me around and made me welcome and comfortable. The time goes too fast...

Cool that you posted from the phone store, Ana!
I dropped Mom off at the airport, all checked in, about an hour and a half ago. All's well as far as I know, and I hope she will check in with us shortly after she makes it home. (we commiserated about her required layover in Houston -- I'm kinda mad at Texas these days)
It was so great to have her with us, and I'm so grateful she's willing to make the trip as often as she is. Of course it's never really enough time, but the time we do get, it sure is great! May it ever be thus! Thanks for the fudge, Mom!!

Here I am in Kingston, Washington after a week in Gig Harbor with Pat and Ken during which we talked (a lot) knitted, went to tag sales, played Racko and SkipBo, went to a yoga class and a folk-dance evening. Tonight at Mona and David's we had a great dinner of salmon and all the trimmings this evening. David knows how to cook 'em! It's great being here with the Pingrees and to catch up on the teen-aged grandchildren and to see the giant FRAGRANT rhododendron blossoms in the back yard. Mona is quite a landscape artist. The weather has been good most of the time. I'll be heading home day after tomorrow.

glad mom is having good travels and the stylos-allans are burning last year away (i guess the pond receded from the back yard) Wish i was going to be at that baseball game where maybe some of the curse busting magic will rub off on the cubs. Me i'm going wood shopping for a flooring project (no not in our house, not this year). Rainy and cool and lots of tulips in our yard.

Did you hear that I won the marathon? Okay, perhaps it was only in my mind. Actually, I had a blazing bonfire in the yard to burn a year's worth of fallen brush, with Jess and the brawn of the operation. Great fun. And fantastic spring weather. Hope you all celebrated Patriot's Day in an equally patriotic (or at least fun) manner.

We had a very nice visit with Mom over the weekend. She is onto the next step of her journey, down at Ken & Patsy's for the week, then up to Mona's for the weekend. The visit was much too short, as usual. I suppose it's time to be thinking about summer plans. Does anyone have any ideas? Other than being in Chicago for the Cubs/Red Sox games on June 11, my summer is still open...§

I am here in the Great Northwest, amidst the green and rain. I can report that Steve, Mark, Jerome and and Ana are fine, and that the work on the new space is moving along apace. Three new skylights! It's going to be beautiful.

To all concerned: Panagiotis arrived at the Asheville Greyhound station this morning (only 45 minutes late). He is now working to clear the sink drain which clogged up in his absence. No rest for the weary. He reports a very good visit Up North.

And a very nice spring day here, as well. And a day that has been pleasantly interrupted by a surprise visit by Jeff (aka Papa II). We are happy to report that he seems to be doing well and as always, we are most glad to have him. §

I think this is Cameron's birthday, and if it is, I send him many birthday wishes. It's hard to wait for a birthday. (When you're young, that is.)

Recent news from me: I was treated to a baseball game (plus parking! and hot tub and place to sleep) by Steve last night. Sadly the Mariners lost, but I did get to see Jerome's nifty Science Fair project (betcha get an A on it, Jerome). Over Easter weekend we had Mark and Jerome visit us and got to share in Easter baskets, egg hunting and egg coloring. And great company.
And now back to work!

Don't any of you wise guys correct that last message...that part about "their grandfather", I mean. Isn't it frustrating, when you can't correct your mistakes... The 3 of them are on their way now at 8:30 and I'm making lists of things to get done. We have had sun, then a shower and then sun again and I haven't even had breakfast yet.

Hello Jerome: Glad to see your message. I can almost hear you, loud and clear. I'll be seeing you in person in 2 weeks, at the end of your school break.
Here in Brevard, I will soon be waving goodbye to Paula and Athena, who are heading back to Massachusetts and taking their grandfather with them. Last night we had a good (and long) game of Dominoes, winding up a great week together, here and at the cabin.
